Archspire and Aborted Deliver An Explosive Performance

The Tech Death Metal Supermen Bring an Incredible Show to the Hardcore Fans of South Florida – Photos and Review of the Archspire and Aborted Concert at the Revolution Live in Ft Lauderdale, FL

Ft Lauderdale’s Revolution Live was the epicenter of a brutal sonic assault of extreme music this past Monday as Canadian tech-death giants Archspire headlined a night of brutal blast beats and unparalleled intensity. Bringing together fans from all over the state to perform their best karate moves in the mosh pit, the show was a masterclass in technical death metal. Archspire was supported by a formidable lineup including the brutal death metal veterans Aborted, and rising stars Alluvial and Carcosa.

First up was Alluvial, kicking off the night with a masterful display of intricate guitarwork and dynamic double-bass drums. Led by guitar master Wes Hauch, the band’s members all have impressive impressive pedigrees in the metal scene, and long term fans of the band will be glad to know that a much needed vocalist (Kevin Muller of ex-Suffocation fame) has been added to the lineup to round out the band’s sound. Alluvial’s performance was a showcase of incredible musicianship, and songs like “Ulysses” and “Sleepers Become Giants” highlighted their ability to blend complex guitar work with haunting vocals.

Up next was Carcosa, bringing a bit of different flavor to the night with their more deathcore-oriented sound. The Vancouver-based band is known for their crushing riffs and dark themes, and their set was a perfect blend of raw power and technical precision, captivating the audience from start to finish. Tracks like “The Plague” and “Vermin” showcased their ability to produce songs laced with bone-crushing heaviness, setting a high bar for the evening. The crowd responded with enthusiasm, headbanging and moshing in unison, clearly energized by Carcosa’s commanding stage presence.

Belgium’s death metal stalwarts Aborted took the stage next with an unrelenting brutality that only they can deliver. Known for their relentless speed and the guttural vocals of Sven de Caluwé, Aborted’s set was a whirlwind of sonic ferocity. They ripped through a setlist that included fan favorites like “Retrogore” and “Deathbringer“, each track delivered with surgical precision. Vocalist Svencho’s commanding presence and the band’s tight performance ensured that the energy in the venue remained at its peak, and the pit was a maelstrom of chaos, reflecting the intensity of the performance.

By the time Archspire was ready to take the stage, you could feel the excitement in the air. The Canadian quintet is renowned for their blistering speed and intricate compositions, and they most certainly did not disappoint. Opening with “Bleed The Future“, the band immediately showcased why they are considered one of the most technically proficient bands in the genre. Each member of Archspire displayed amazing virtuosity, from Spencer Prewett’s machine-gun drumming to Dean Lamb and Tobi Morelli’s lightning-fast guitar work. Vocalist Oliver Rae Aleron’s rapid-fire delivery was insanely impressive, and his machine-gun vocal style reminded me of a Death Metal Tech N9ne.

One of my favorite parts of the concert was how un-seriously the band took itself. Too many bands in my opinion try to stay “brutal” and “brooding”, and Archspire is definitely not one of those bands. From firing the bubble machine into the crowd, to making the moshpit do pushups and play impromptu games of Twister before colliding in a wall of death, the concert had an incredibly fun and lighthearted atmosphere thats sorely missing from most metal concerts these days. Tracks like “Remote Tumour Seeker” and “Golden Mouth of Ruin” were executed flawlessly, leaving the audience in awe of the band’s precision and speed.  The most impressive part is that the technical complexity of Archspire’s music translated perfectly live from the record, demonstrating their exceptional skill and tight cohesion as a band.

As the last notes of the night faded (and the ear ringing still remained), one thing was clear: South Florida’s metal enthusiasts definitely got a show to remember. Each band brought their unique style and energy, from the rising talents of Carcosa and Alluvial to the established brutality of Aborted, and culminating in Archspire’s jaw-dropping performance, the night was a celebration of extreme metal at its finest. Fans left the venue buzzing with adrenaline, memories of the night’s performances etched into their minds.
