Silverstein Celebrates ’25 Years of Noise’ With South Florida
Post-Hardcore Legends Thursday and Silverstein Lead a Choir of Screams and Elder Emo Memories – Photos and Review of the Silverstein “25 Years of Noise” Tour at the Revolution Live in Ft Lauderdale, FL
The air inside Fort Lauderdale’s Revolution Live was thick with nostalgia and anticipation Sunday night as a sold-out multi-generational crowd gathered for one of the the final stops of Silverstein’s sprawling “25 Years of Noise” anniversary tour. More than just a concert, this was a communal revisiting of emotional musical touchstones and a celebration of the post-hardcore scene making its come-back. The evening unfolded as a perfectly curated journey through different shades of the genre, building towards a marathon headlining set from the Canadian legends that was both a victory lap and a visceral, high-energy performance.

The evening’s aural odyssey began with Bloom, a dynamic band hailing from Australia that served as the ideal gateway into the night, their sound blending melodic sensibilities with crushing, emotive heaviness. The crowd, still filtering in, was quickly engaged by their passionate delivery and atmospheric guitar work. Songs like “Out of Reach” and “Withered” created a swelling sense of melancholy and resolve, effectively setting the tonal stage for the night, and their performance was a reminder that the spirit of music is a global language, one that continues to evolve and find new voices willing to explore the depths of feeling.

Following that atmospheric start, Nashville’s Free Throw injected a dose of wild, anxious energy into the room. Their particular brand of emo-tinged punk felt like a raw nerve, with vocalist Cory Castro’s lyrics walking a tightrope between self-deprecation and desperate hope. The band’s chemistry was incredible, feeding off the growing crowd’s enthusiasm as they tore through tracks like “Randy, I Am The Liquor” and “The Corner’s Dilemma”, a wave of synchronized head-nods and shouted lyrics sweeping through the venue.

Then came a seismic shift in atmosphere as the arrival of the legendary Thursday triggered an immediate, electric surge through Revolution Live. From the opening notes of “The Other Side Of The Crash”, the venue transformed into a frenetic, singular organism, moshpits forming in the crowd like mini-hurricanes. Geoff Rickly, ever the captivating preacher of existential dread and hope, commanded the chaos with his trademark magnetic charisma and intensity, and another pleasant surprise was Wade MacNeil of Alexisonfire serving as the touring guitarist for this trek. The set was a relentless barrage of classics—”Signals Over the Air“, “Jet Black New Year“, “Cross Out the Eyes“—each one a time capsule detonated with present-day ferocity. Finishing up their time on stage with a one-two punch of “Understanding in a Car Crash” and “War All The Time“, the crowd surfers multiplied and the entire floor became a swirling pit, every lyric screamed back a collective catharsis. Thursday’s performance proved their seminal work has lost none of its urgent, life-or-death power.

By the time Silverstein took the stage, the packed venue was electric and emotionally spent, yet somehow ready for more. After a small introduction video as the band took their place on stage, Silverstein launched into their set with “Negative Space“, packing the seasoned precision and explosive passion of a band that has spent 25 years perfecting their craft. The career-spanning setlist was a gift to longtime fans, weaving early anthems like “Already Dead” with later triumphs like “Massachusetts”.

Shane Told’s voice effortlessly traversed from piercing screams to melodic clarity, and the band’s performance was tight, powerful, and deeply connected, with Told frequently pausing to express genuine gratitude to the crowd for the quarter-century journey. The set also featured a very unique acoustic performance of “My Heroine”, which the band performed as an encore along with their other early classics “Smashed Into Pieces” and “Bleeds No More“. As the final chords reverberated through the sweat-soaked room, it was clear that the noise Silverstein started making 25 years ago remains a vital, roaring flame, and on this night in Fort Lauderdale, it burned brighter than ever.
