voco Sandpiper Makes Paradise Feel Surprisingly Close
South Floridians Can Skip the Airport and Still Find Waterfront Bliss at voco Sandpiper.
June 15th – June 17th, 2026
South Floridians are spoiled, which is both a blessing and a personality flaw.
We have beaches close enough to become background noise, palm trees that photobomb daily errands, and sunsets that casually show off like they are auditioning for a tourism commercial. Because of that, it takes a lot for a Florida resort to actually feel like an escape. Not a nice hotel. Not a convenient staycation. An escape.

voco Sandpiper All-Inclusive Resort in Port St. Lucie manages to pull that off without asking guests to dig out a passport, battle airport security, or explain to their bank why a weekend suddenly involved four separate resort charges and a mysterious poolside nacho fee.
Set along the St. Lucie River on Florida’s Treasure Coast, the resort feels like the kind of place where South Florida can exhale. The water views stretch across the property with a breezy calm that immediately changes the pace. General Manager Marika Sexton described those sweeping views as one of the property’s biggest benefits, and it is easy to see why. The river does not just sit politely in the background. It becomes part of the mood, wrapping the resort in that soft vacation haze where time gets slippery and shoes start to feel optional.
What makes voco Sandpiper especially appealing is that it challenges the idea that paradise has to involve leaving South Florida behind. You can drive to Port St. Lucie, pull into the resort, and almost immediately feel like you have crossed into vacation mode. The official resort site leans into that same idea, positioning the property as a road trip friendly all inclusive retreat with dining, activities, entertainment, pools, and waterfront scenery built into the experience.

The biggest luxury here may not be the pool, the food, or even the view. It is the relief of not constantly doing vacation math.
Sexton put it perfectly during our conversation, explaining that all-inclusive travel removes the mental fatigue of adding up every meal, drink, snack, and activity. That point lands hard if you have ever taken a “quick getaway” and somehow returned home with a receipt collection large enough to qualify as a scrapbook. At voco Sandpiper, the appeal is that guests can relax into the experience instead of silently calculating whether ordering another cocktail is a lifestyle choice or a financial event.
The property itself has been dramatically refreshed, with Sexton noting a $55 million renovation that helped preserve the fun, social energy of the resort while giving it a much brighter, cleaner, more modern identity. The result feels open and playful rather than boxed in. There are pool areas with different personalities, casual dining spots where guests can wander up for something easy, larger rooms with wall to wall and floor to ceiling views, and enough outdoor space to keep families, couples, athletes, business groups, and bachelorette crews from all stepping on each other’s flip flops.
That separation is one of the resort’s underrated strengths. The adult pool gives grown ups a place to disappear into a quieter waterfront rhythm, while the family friendly areas keep the main vacation energy alive with splashes, music, games, and movement. It is not hard to picture grandparents relaxing under shade, parents finally sitting still for seven blessed minutes, kids racing toward the arcade or pool, and someone in the group already asking when dinner starts.
And then there are the activities.
voco Sandpiper has the kind of schedule that makes overplanners feel seen and underplanners feel rescued. Yoga classes, water aerobics, salsa lessons, sports clinics, arts & crafts, live entertainment, water activities, trivia and family programming give each day shape without making it feel like camp with a room key. Sexton said the resort’s entertainment director previously worked as a cruise director, and that background shows. There is a cruise-like sense of “something is always happening,” only here nobody has to worry about seasickness or being trapped at sea with a buffet critic named Gary.

Daily activities, live entertainment, wellness classes, sports classes, kayaking, paddleboarding, pools and ay pass access through ResortPass, help make the property appealing not only for overnight guests but also locals who want a full resort day without committing to a longer stay.
Sports remain a major part of the resort’s identity, which makes sense given the property’s history and footprint. Guests can learn pickleball, take tennis lessons, try beach volleyball, or sharpen their skills with professional coaches through the resort’s sports partnerships. Sexton noted that teams have used the property for training, and that pickleball has become so popular the resort is already looking at doubling its courts.

That is the kind of detail that says a lot. This is not a resort treating activities like decorative brochure filler. People are actually using them. People are showing up. People are sweating, stretching, swinging, splashing, and pretending their pickleball backhand did not just endanger someone’s smoothie.
The water adds another layer. Kayaks and paddleboards are included, while jet ski rentals are available through Salty’s Watersports, a locally owned and family operated company partnered with the resort. That local connection matters. voco Sandpiper does not feel like a resort dropped into Port St. Lucie without caring where it landed. It pulls from the area, from the St. Lucie River setting to local vendors, local entertainment, and even visual art on property.

On-site murals created through a partnership with the St. Lucie Cultural Alliance add another local heartbeat to the property, with artwork from Lyssa Wyn helping brighten the resort’s personality. That matters because a good resort can give you a place to sleep, eat and swim. A memorable one gives you a sense of place. The mural near the adult pool, the local steel drummer, the wildlife sightings, the river breeze and the Treasure Coast calm all help voco Sandpiper feel rooted instead of generic.

Food is another part of the all-inclusive equation, and voco Sandpiper wisely keeps it approachable. This is not the kind of property where every dish needs tweezers, foam, or a server whispering about soil. Sexton described the food as fresh and casual, with plenty of variety and enough adventurous touches to encourage guests to try something they might normally skip when ordering à la carte. A burger and fries are still essential, of course, because vacation should not require pretending you are above fries. But when something like lamb appears in the evening, the all-inclusive format gives guests permission to sample without the pressure of turning one entree into a high-stakes commitment.
The dining options range from international buffet style meals to casual poolside bites, outdoor food container concepts, bars, and coffee stops for daily cravings. That variety is important because the average guest is not one mood for three straight days. One moment calls for something fresh and light. Another calls for something crispy, salty and unapologetically eaten near water. voco seems to understand both versions of vacation hunger.

What also stands out is how flexible the property feels for different types of gatherings. Yes, it works beautifully for families looking for an easy escape. But it also makes sense for Mother’s Day weekends, Valentine’s Day retreats, weddings, business meetings, bachelor and bachelorette groups, team travel, corporate outings, and multigenerational gatherings where half the family wants pool time and the other half wants organized activities before lunch.
With indoor and outdoor meeting spaces, ballrooms, scenic venues overlooking the St. Lucie River, catering, and planning support, the property can shift from vacation playground to event destination without losing its personality. Private meeting rooms give business groups a practical reason to come, while the all-inclusive setup makes the social side easier. Nobody has to herd everyone across town for dinner. Nobody has to coordinate twelve separate tabs. Nobody has to explain why Uncle Mark ordered appetizers for the table and then vanished before the check came.

For weddings, the waterfront setting does a lot of heavy lifting. For business groups, the resort offers enough structure to be productive and enough resort energy to keep the word “retreat” from feeling like a trap. For families, the footprint gives everyone breathing room. For couples, the adults only areas make romance feel possible even when other guests are traveling with children who have discovered the volume setting marked “vacation scream.”
The resort is still evolving, too. A playground is coming, directly in response to guest feedback, and pickleball expansion is already on the radar. Those additions show a property paying attention after opening rather than simply polishing the brochure and hoping everyone adapts.
That responsiveness may be one of voco Sandpiper’s strongest signs of long-term potential. Resorts are living things. They need energy, maintenance, feedback, personality, and a little humility. voco Sandpiper seems to understand that the best version of itself is not frozen in place. It is still stretching.
The beauty of the place is that it can be whatever kind of escape guests need. It can be lazy. It can be active. It can be family focused. It can be romantic. It can be a business trip with better lighting and fewer sad conference sandwiches. It can be a three-night stay, which Sexton noted is common, or it can simply be a day pass for locals who want a taste of vacation without packing like they are moving to another climate.
For South Floridians especially, that is the magic trick. voco Sandpiper makes paradise feel close enough to be reasonable, but far enough away to count.
You do not need to fly to the Caribbean to hear steel drums by the water. You do not need to leave the state to float in a pool with a drink nearby. You do not need to spend half the trip budgeting every snack and activity. You can drive up the Treasure Coast, settle beside the St. Lucie River, let the schedule fill itself, and remember that sometimes the escape we keep searching for is sitting just a few hours away, wearing sunglasses, holding a paddleboard, and asking if we are ready for water aerobics.
voco Sandpiper All-Inclusive Resort does not feel like a substitute for paradise. It feels like Florida finally remembered it could offer one of its own.
