Finding the Pause Button in Brickell
Pause Studio Blends Science, Serenity and a Little Space-Age Weirdness into a Refreshingly Revitalizing Miami Wellness Experience.
July 12th, 2026
Brickell doesn’t exactly scream relaxation. Between the traffic, construction, high-rises, packed restaurants and people who somehow manage to look perfectly put together while walking through 90-degree heat, slowing down isn’t always part of the neighborhood’s DNA.
Then there’s Pause Studio.
Tucked into the heart of Miami’s urban playground, Pause is a science-backed wellness, recovery and longevity destination built around a collection of therapies designed for athletic performance, preventative wellness and anyone who simply wants to feel a little better walking out than they did walking in.
And after being squeezed, frozen, illuminated and left floating in 1,200 pounds of Epsom salt, that’s exactly what happened.
Walking through the doors, the atmosphere immediately shifts from the commotion outside to a clean, modern space that feels somewhere between an upscale spa, a science lab and a very stylish spaceship. Before we were zipped into anything or subjected to temperatures that would make most Floridians reconsider their life choices, we were given an incredibly thorough tour of the studio.

That proved important because Pause isn’t a place where someone simply points toward a futuristic glowing contraption and says, Good luck.
Each therapy was carefully explained, including how it works, what to expect and how different treatments can be combined depending on whether the goal is muscle recovery, relaxation, athletic performance or general wellness. The staff made everything approachable and conversational, answering our questions and even recommending ways to pair treatments together.
Our timing was particularly appropriate. My girlfriend Charity and I had both somehow woken up with back pain that morning, which led to a discussion about our Sleep Number settings, sleeping positions and the cats who frequently wedge themselves against us and apparently have little concern for proper spinal alignment.
We started with compression therapy, settling into neighboring recliners while inflatable sleeves rhythmically squeezed away at us. I opted for the leg boots, while Charity used the compression system around her hips. With a warm cup of tea in hand, I had somehow gone from the chaos of Brickell to being pampered like a very relaxed astronaut.

Not a bad start.
The LED light therapy continued the futuristic theme, with options extending well beyond the familiar red glow. Red light was explained as a choice for inflammation, muscle recovery, cellular rejuvenation and collagen support, while green is geared more toward calming the nervous system and promoting relaxation. Pink combines blue and red light, bringing together the skin-focused properties associated with blue and the inflammation-focused benefits of red.
Guests can choose a single color for a 10-minute session or combine two during a 20-minute treatment. Someone seeking muscle recovery followed by relaxation, for example, might start with red before switching to green.

In other words, you can choose your glow based on your goal.
The green light was specifically recommended as a precursor to float therapy, which made sense once I climbed into one of Pause’s sensory deprivation pods.
Filled with approximately 1,200 pounds of magnesium Epsom salt, the pod creates enough buoyancy to keep the body effortlessly afloat while alleviating pressure on muscles, joints and the spine. Guests can close the pod or leave it open, listen to a meditation frequency or turn off the sound, and adjust the lighting to create their preferred level of sensory deprivation.
At first, I’ll admit, it was strange.
After all, staying afloat is incredibly awkward when you’re accustomed to actively trying to keep yourself above water. My initial instinct was to think about where my arms should go, how my body was positioned and whether I was actually doing this whole floating thing correctly.
Then, after a few minutes, something shifted.

The awkwardness faded. My body settled. The water, maintained around body temperature, seemed to disappear beneath me, and what initially felt foreign became incredibly relaxing. With sight and sound reduced, there’s very little demanding your attention. No phone. No traffic. No notifications. No cat trying to claim your side of the bed.
Just float.
The contrast therapy suite offers an entirely different approach to recovery, combining an infrared sauna with a cold plunge kept between approximately 47 and 50 degrees. Alternating between the two is intended to stimulate blood flow and circulation, giving guests a literal hot-and-cold experience within one private room that can accommodate up to three people.
This is also where Charity and I couldn’t be more different. She loves heat. I love the cold. She can’t stand being cold, while excessive heat isn’t exactly my idea of a vacation.
Somehow, Pause managed to accommodate one of our fundamental relationship differences without requiring couples therapy.
The cryotherapy chamber, however, was unquestionably my territory.
Three minutes.

That’s it.
Yet after emerging from the cold, I felt genuinely revitalized. The burst of energy was so immediate that I felt like I could have run a mile right then and there.
I said could have. Thankfully, nobody at Pause asked me to prove it.
That sensation ultimately captured what stood out most about the entire visit. No single treatment had to carry the experience. It was the combination of therapies, each producing a different feeling and serving a different purpose, that made the visit so welcoming.
Compression allowed us to sit back and unwind. LED light therapy offered a customizable experience depending on our goals. Floating began with uncertainty before giving way to genuine tranquility. Cryotherapy delivered a three-minute blast of cold that somehow left me feeling ready to take on the world, or at least a moderately paced mile.

Pause Studio may be supported by professional athletes and wellness experts, and its therapies are certainly attractive to those focused on athletic performance, longevity and preventative wellness. But you don’t need to be training for a marathon or preparing for your next professional season to appreciate the experience.
Sometimes, you’re simply two people who woke up with aching backs because the Sleep Number settings still aren’t quite right and the cats continue to treat personal space as a loose suggestion.
We walked into Pause curious about a collection of treatments that, at times, looked like they belonged aboard a spaceship. We walked out with new vigor, feeling relaxed, refreshed and considerably more energized than when we arrived.
In a neighborhood that rarely stops moving, finding a place dedicated entirely to hitting pause feels pretty good.
