Zach Top Honors Country Music’s Past While Claiming His Future in South Florida
The Up-And-Coming Country Superstar Makes His South Florida Headlining Debut On The “Cold Beer & Country Music” Tour – Photos and Review of the Zach Top Concert at the iThink Financial Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, FL
The immense iThink Financial Amphitheater in West Palm Beach transformed into an intimate honky-tonk country bar under the stars on Saturday night as Zach Top brought his Cold Beer & Country Music tour to town. For a rising star who has spent the past two years opening for the likes of Dierks Bentley and Lainey Wilson, this marked a significant milestone: his first-ever headlining performance in South Florida, not an easy feat to achieve by any means and especially not for someone so young. Although born in Washington (almost as far north as this country will take you, despite the southern style of his music), the Sunnyside native’s twangy guitar and soulful lyrics channeled the spirit of George Strait and Randy Jackson as the venue welcomed an enormous crowd eager to witness the neotraditional country revival.

The evening began with a strong opening set from Jake Worthington, a kindred spirit in the modern (yet “traditional”) country movement. Hailing from Texas, Worthington shares Top’s dedication to the classic sounds of the 1990s, delivering a performance that spiritually transported the audience straight to a dark and sweaty line dancing joint in Nashville. His deep, resonant voice resonated particularly well on ballads, showcasing the heartbreak and authenticity that have earned him a growing following. Since his days as a teenager on Season 6 of The Voice in 2014, Worthington has steadily built a career rooted in authenticity, releasing his self-titled debut album in 2023. His set was a perfect primer for the evening, warming up the crowd with a southern sound that felt both timeless and refreshing.

When the giant Zach Top sign hanging in the middle of the stage lit up and the man of the hour finally took the stage, the energy in the amphitheater shifted to another level. From the opening notes of “Sounds Like the Radio“, it was clear that the 29 year old Top possesses an old soul and a knack for twangy melodies that belies his age. The setlist drew heavily from his acclaimed debut album “Cold Beer & Country Music” and his sophomore release “Ain’t In It For My Health“, including fan favorites like “The Kinda Woman I Like“, “Lonely for Long“, and “South of Sanity“. What sets Top apart is not just his songwriting and lyricism, but also his exceptional musicianship. Growing up in Sunnyside, Washington, he started learning guitar at five years old and formed a bluegrass band with his siblings by the age of seven. That background shone through during a mid-set bluegrass segment, where he and his band delivered a stunning acoustic interlude featuring “In a World Gone Wrong” and a cover of Jimmy Martin’s “Freeborn Man“.

Top masterfully balanced high-energy honky-tonk numbers with moments of acoustic genuine reflection, slowing the tempo just enough to bring a warm, reflective tone to the amphitheater while keeping the energy alive with tight musicianship and witty storytelling. He shared charming anecdotes, including a story about his first performance at age five, endearing himself further to the crowd. The set also featured a scorching guitar solo during a medley that included a cover of Dolly Parton’s “9 to 5″, demonstrating his versatility and respect for country music’s lineage. The main set climaxed with the title track, “Cold Beer & Country Music“, a song that perfectly encapsulated the night (and his artistic mission as a whole). The encore, featuring “I Know a Place” and “Things to Do” sent the crowd home satisfied but wanting more.

As the lights came up on the iThink Financial Amphitheater, the feeling was one of witnessing a star on the ascendancy. Zach Top’s first headlining show in South Florida was a declaration: in an era where country music often leans toward pop production, Top stands proud as a beacon of tradition, proving that authenticity and real musicianship still resonate deeply with audiences. For the thousands who packed the venue, it was a night that honored the past while pointing confidently toward the future of the genre, and if this performance is any indication, Zach Top’s star will only continue to rise, with South Florida eager to welcome him back.
