Water Taxi Offers a Fresh Look at Fort Lauderdale’s Waterways
Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi’s Premier Sightseeing Cruise Reveals the Stories Behind the Venice of America
June 5th, 2026
Fort Lauderdale’s waterways are often admired for their luxury yachts and waterfront mansions, but the city’s newest attraction proves there’s far more to discover beyond the surface.
Launched June 5, Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi’s new Premier Sightseeing Cruise offers a 90-minute narrated journey through the Intracoastal Waterway, blending local history, celebrity connections, wildlife insights and jaw-dropping real estate into one relaxing experience. Departing from Las Olas Landing, the cruise was designed to give both visitors and locals a fresh perspective on the city known as the “Venice of America.”
The atmosphere aboard was intentionally laid back. Light music played in the background, alcoholic beverages were available for purchase, and the smoke-free environment allowed guests to settle in and enjoy the scenery. Rain or shine, the cruise operates daily, creating an accessible attraction for travelers looking to experience Fort Lauderdale beyond the beach.
What truly elevated the experience was the narration provided by guide Victor. Rather than simply pointing out homes and yachts, he transformed the waterways into a living storybook filled with local history, architecture, celebrity lore and insider knowledge.

As the vessel cruised along the Intracoastal, passengers were treated to views of sprawling waterfront estates, many occupying prime stretches of the famed Billionaire’s Row. One surprising fact shared during the tour was that many of these lavish properties serve primarily as vacation homes, remaining empty for much of the year despite their extraordinary size and value.
The cruise offered countless examples of the wealth that has helped define portions of Fort Lauderdale’s waterfront. Mega-yachts lined private docks while estates featured expansive lawns, tropical landscaping, resort-style pools and architectural designs ranging from Mediterranean-inspired villas to sleek contemporary compounds.
Yet the tour wasn’t solely about luxury.
Victor frequently connected what passengers were seeing to the city’s evolution over time. One particularly interesting lesson involved the seawalls that line many waterfront properties. Older homes often feature lower seawalls, while modern renovation requirements frequently require homeowners to raise them to meet current standards. It’s the type of detail many visitors would never notice on their own but one that provides insight into the realities of waterfront living in South Florida.

The route eventually made its way into downtown Fort Lauderdale and along the New River, where the scenery shifted from private estates to a blend of restaurants, marinas, businesses and high-rise development. The contrast showcased how Fort Lauderdale successfully balances urban growth with its deep connection to the water.
Celebrity and entertainment connections added another layer of intrigue throughout the voyage. Passengers viewed a home featured in the film Cape Fear, starring Robert De Niro and Nick Nolte, as well as a production house used by country music star Kenny Chesney for a music video shoot. Other notable residences highlighted along the route included a former home of Tiger Woods and a property associated with Sonny and Cher.
The tour also explored the impact of influential figures who helped shape modern South Florida. Among those discussed was Wayne Huizenga, whose influence stretched across business, sports and development, as well as other prominent residents whose names remain tied to the area’s most impressive waterfront estates.

Nature also made an appearance in the narrative. Passengers learned about local marine life, including tarpon that frequent the waterways. Closer to the ocean, manatees and numerous other species can occasionally be spotted, adding a welcome reminder that Fort Lauderdale’s waterways remain an active ecosystem despite the surrounding development.
What stood out most was how the cruise continuously evolved. One moment focused on history. The next highlighted architecture, celebrity culture, marine life or local legends. Every turn seemed to reveal a new story.
Fort Lauderdale Water Taxi created the Premier Sightseeing Cruise as a way to help guests slow down and appreciate the city from its most defining feature…the water itself. After experiencing it firsthand, it’s easy to see why. The cruise succeeds not only as a sightseeing excursion but as an entertaining and informative introduction to one of South Florida’s most fascinating destinations.
For those seeking an even more festive option, Water Taxi recently launched a Sunset Music Cruise departing from Shooters Waterfront. The weekly experience includes a VIP happy hour followed by an evening cruise featuring live music and sunset views.

Balloon Museum Floats Into Miami With Pop Air: Art is Inflatable
The wildly immersive exhibition brings glowing sculptures, larger-than-life installations, and playful wonder to Mana Wynwood.
May 18, 2026
The internationally celebrated Balloon Museum has officially made its Miami debut with Pop Air: Art is Inflatable, a bright, bold, and wildly imaginative exhibition now open at Mana Wynwood Convention Center. This immersive art experience brings together giant inflatable installations, glowing sculptures, digital environments, and interactive works that turn a museum visit into a full-on adventure.
From the moment guests step inside, Pop Air Miami feels like a dreamy playground for the senses. It is colorful, surprising, and wonderfully larger than life, with each room inviting visitors to walk, wander, look up, move closer, and fully experience the artwork around them. This is not the kind of exhibit where you stand quietly in the corner and nod thoughtfully. This is art you feel, explore, and definitely photograph.

Opening night offered a special VIP after-hours experience with drinks, a private tour, and a closer look at the creative vision behind the exhibition. The result was a night that felt playful, polished, and very Miami, with guests moving through glowing worlds and oversized installations that made every turn feel like a new discovery.
Among the standout pieces is Hypercosmo, an immersive light-and-sound environment that surrounds guests in a futuristic, otherworldly atmosphere. Another must-see moment is Mariposa, a glowing 26-foot butterfly powered by more than 39,000 LEDs. It is dramatic, beautiful, and exactly the kind of dazzling centerpiece that makes people stop mid-conversation and reach for their phones.
What makes Balloon Museum Miami especially fun is how easy it is to enjoy for almost anyone. Kids will love the scale, color, and playful energy. Adults will appreciate the design, creativity, and international artistry. Content creators will have plenty to capture. Families, couples, friends, and art lovers can all find something to love inside this inflatable world.
The exhibition fits perfectly in Wynwood, a neighborhood already known for murals, creativity, and immersive experiences. But Pop Air: Art is Inflatable brings something different to Miami’s art scene. It is soft and spectacular, lighthearted and impressive, and filled with moments that make you feel like you have wandered into a world where imagination took up all the space.

Whether you are planning a family outing in Miami, looking for a fun Wynwood date night, searching for things to do in Miami this weekend, or just want a new immersive art experience to add to your list, Balloon Museum Miami is an easy yes.
