BBQ, Bragging Rights and Big Laughs Launched Our Road Trip
March 13th – 22nd, 2026
Road trips have a funny way of announcing themselves. Sometimes it is a packed car, a questionable playlist, a too-early departure or the first gas station snack that feels like a mistake before it is even opened. For us, the official start came in Jacksonville, where the first day of the trip set the tone with smoky barbecue, cold drinks, virtual competition and the kind of laughs that already felt like memories in the making.
This road trip carried a little extra meaning. I was traveling with my nephews, one soon to graduate high school and the other soon to graduate college, both standing at the edge of big life chapters. Before diplomas, jobs, new campuses or whatever comes next had their say, there was still time for a night built around food, fun and a reminder that growing up does not mean outgrowing a good laugh.
Our first stop was The Bearded Pig, a Jacksonville barbecue spot that does not gently suggest dinner. It drops a tray in front of you and dares you to pretend you are not impressed.

From the outside, the place has that welcoming Southern confidence, with its bold sign promising Southern BBQ + Cocktails. Inside, it feels casual, lively and comfortably unpolished in all the right ways. Warm wood walls, orange chairs, pig murals, bar chatter, glowing lights and rows of sauces create the type of atmosphere that says, “Pull up a seat, loosen up and stop counting napkins.”
The food backed up the attitude.
The barbecue tray arrived like a greatest-hits collection for anyone who believes a road trip meal should have some weight to it. Ribs with a dark, smoky bark. Brisket with that beautiful charred edge and tender center. Smoked chicken with peppery skin and juicy bite. Pulled pork piled high and ready to be tucked into soft buns with pickles, onions and whatever sauce felt right in the moment.

It was messy. It was hearty. It was exactly the kind of meal visitors should hunt down when passing through Jacksonville.
The sides were not afterthoughts either. The mac and cheese came creamy and rich, with a golden top that made it feel like comfort food doing a victory lap. The collard greens added that savory Southern balance, while the seasoned waffle fries brought crunch, spice and the very dangerous “just one more” problem. Even the crispy little snack bites on the table had that road-trip magic where everyone keeps reaching in without fully admitting they are still eating.
By the time we finished, The Bearded Pig had already earned can’t-miss status. It is not just a barbecue stop. It is the kind of place that gives a visitor a real taste of the city, one smoky bite at a time.
Of course, after that much food, the logical next move was not to sit quietly and digest like responsible adults. It was to head over to Fore Score Golf Tavern and see who still had enough coordination left for virtual competition.
Fore Score brings a totally different energy, but it fit the night perfectly. From the outside, the modern golf lounge look is polished and inviting, with big windows, patio seating and the glow of a place that knows the evening is just getting started. Inside, it blends sports bar, lounge and high-tech game room, with a stylish bar, tables full of people, screens glowing and simulator bays ready for action.
The best part is that Fore Score does not require anyone to be an actual golfer to have a great time. Sure, the full-swing golf simulator is there for anyone who wants to chase fairways, avoid bunkers and pretend one good shot means they have “figured out the game.” But the bays also open up into a much wider playground, with soccer, basketball-style challenges, carnival-style games and target competitions that make it easy for everyone to jump in.

That was where the night really found its rhythm.
One moment someone was lining up a golf shot like the Masters jacket was waiting in the corner. The next, a soccer ball was flying toward a virtual goalie or a throw was being launched at a digital carnival setup. There were close calls, questionable strategies, accidental confidence, instant humbling and plenty of laughs. Basically, everything you want from family competition without anyone needing to ice a shoulder afterward.

Fore Score also works because it does not feel like just an activity. It is a hangout. The food and drinks round out the experience, giving groups a reason to linger between turns, talk trash, regroup and then step back into the bay for another shot at glory. It has enough grown-up tavern energy for the adults, enough interactive fun for younger guests and enough variety to keep the night moving.
Together, The Bearded Pig and Fore Score Golf Tavern made Jacksonville feel like more than a stopover. They turned the first night of our Spring Break Road Trip into a proper kickoff.
One spot filled the table with smoke, sauce, mac and meat sweats. The other filled the room with virtual swings, kicks, throws and laughter. For two nephews getting ready to step into major milestones, it was a night that felt simple in the best possible way. No speeches. No big life lessons forced into the moment. Just good food, friendly competition and a reminder that some of the best parts of a trip happen before you even reach the next destination.
Jacksonville gave us a hearty start, a few bragging rights and enough laughs to carry into the miles ahead. As first nights go, that is a pretty strong opening swing.

Balloon Museum Floats Into Miami With Pop Air: Art is Inflatable
The wildly immersive exhibition brings glowing sculptures, larger-than-life installations, and playful wonder to Mana Wynwood.
May 18, 2026
The internationally celebrated Balloon Museum has officially made its Miami debut with Pop Air: Art is Inflatable, a bright, bold, and wildly imaginative exhibition now open at Mana Wynwood Convention Center. This immersive art experience brings together giant inflatable installations, glowing sculptures, digital environments, and interactive works that turn a museum visit into a full-on adventure.
From the moment guests step inside, Pop Air Miami feels like a dreamy playground for the senses. It is colorful, surprising, and wonderfully larger than life, with each room inviting visitors to walk, wander, look up, move closer, and fully experience the artwork around them. This is not the kind of exhibit where you stand quietly in the corner and nod thoughtfully. This is art you feel, explore, and definitely photograph.

Opening night offered a special VIP after-hours experience with drinks, a private tour, and a closer look at the creative vision behind the exhibition. The result was a night that felt playful, polished, and very Miami, with guests moving through glowing worlds and oversized installations that made every turn feel like a new discovery.
Among the standout pieces is Hypercosmo, an immersive light-and-sound environment that surrounds guests in a futuristic, otherworldly atmosphere. Another must-see moment is Mariposa, a glowing 26-foot butterfly powered by more than 39,000 LEDs. It is dramatic, beautiful, and exactly the kind of dazzling centerpiece that makes people stop mid-conversation and reach for their phones.
What makes Balloon Museum Miami especially fun is how easy it is to enjoy for almost anyone. Kids will love the scale, color, and playful energy. Adults will appreciate the design, creativity, and international artistry. Content creators will have plenty to capture. Families, couples, friends, and art lovers can all find something to love inside this inflatable world.
The exhibition fits perfectly in Wynwood, a neighborhood already known for murals, creativity, and immersive experiences. But Pop Air: Art is Inflatable brings something different to Miami’s art scene. It is soft and spectacular, lighthearted and impressive, and filled with moments that make you feel like you have wandered into a world where imagination took up all the space.

Whether you are planning a family outing in Miami, looking for a fun Wynwood date night, searching for things to do in Miami this weekend, or just want a new immersive art experience to add to your list, Balloon Museum Miami is an easy yes.
