The biggest mistake people make about my home state of Florida is assuming it’s just a beach destination with oceans, oranges, and palm trees. While that image isn’t wrong, it’s far from complete. Florida is also swamp country, home to the Everglades, alligators, and an incredible variety of birds and wildlife.

Out there, it feels like stepping into a prehistoric world: untouched, raw, and beautifully wild.

And there’s no better way to experience it than by airboat, gliding effortlessly over terrain that would otherwise be inaccessible without disturbing the delicate environment.

What began in 1994 with a single airboat has grown into a fleet of twelve, offering expansive tours that cover far more ground than most others. Our captain and co-captain were exceptional, offering detailed insight into the ecosystem and identifying plants, birds, and answering every question with enthusiasm. They even spotted several alligators that I would have completely missed, skillfully maneuvering the boat so everyone could get a clear view and capture photos.

While the alligators were impressive, my favorite moment came when we spotted a bald eagle perched high above before it soared directly overhead. It was breathtaking, majestic, and unforgettable.
