Hysteria in Hollywood: Def Leppard Rock Til They Drop
The 80’s Hard Rock Legends Deliver a Decade-Spanning Two-Hour Assault on the Senses – Photos and Review of the Def Leppard Concert the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL
Under the shadow of the iconic guitar-shaped hotel, a different kind of six-string symphony was set to erupt last night as the legendary Def Leppard took the stage at a packed Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL for a sold out show, delivering a masterclass in rock and roll endurance and hit-making prowess. In a refreshing move that set the tone for the night, there was no opening act—just two hours of pure, unadulterated Leppard, a gift to the faithful who have supported them for over four decades. As the crowd funneled into their seats, around 8PM a 15 minute countdown began on the screens, giving everyone one last warning to grab their final drinks at the bar—the show was about to start.

The lights dimmed precisely at 8:15 PM as promised, and the roar from the crowd was instantaneous. A massive video wall flickered to life, and the five members of rock royalty emerged to the thunderous opening riff of “Rock! Rock! (Till You Drop)“, wasting no time and getting right to the hits. Suddenly, the state-of-the-art venue was transported back to 1983 as the band launched into “Rocket” and “Let’s Get Rocked“, the air thick with nostalgia and the deafening sound of a thousand voices singing every word. But this was merely the appetizer, and without missing a beat, Def Leppard launched into the one-two punch of “Armageddon It” and “Animal“, two anthems from their multi-platinum masterpiece Hysteria.

The famously resilient band, having been through its fair share of trials and tribulations throughout the years, was in spectacular form. Frontman Joe Elliott—the charismatic ringleader—navigated the setlist with a seasoned swagger, his voice remarkably strong and clear, effortlessly hitting the high notes that define their signature sound. The twin-guitar attack of Phil Collen and Vivian Campbell was nothing short of breathtaking, trading solos and harmonizing riffs with telepathic precision. The rhythmic backbone of bassist Rick Savage and the extraordinary one-armed drummer Rick Allen remains one of rock’s greatest marvels, and Allen’s custom kit sounded immense, a powerful, propulsive force that gave every song its undeniable heartbeat.

The setlist was a carefully curated journey through a staggering career. They seamlessly wove new tracks such as “Just Like ’73” and an acoustic version of “This Guitar” with era-defining classics like “Love Bites“. The mood shifted with the bluesy swagger of “Bringin’ On the Heartbreak“, allowing for a moment of soaring, emotional guitar work before erupting into the explosive switch of “Switch 625“. But it was the final act that cemented the evening as pure magic as he opening chords of “Rock of Ages” triggered a seismic response, the entire venue transforming into a massive sing-along dance party. This was immediately followed by “Photograph“, with the video screen flashing iconic images of the band’s late guitarist Steve Clark, a touching tribute that did not go unnoticed.

Returning for a massive three-song encore, they closed the night with the perfect trio of songs: the timeless, piano-led ballad “When Love and Hate Collide” juxtaposed with the the glam-rock stomp of “Hysteria” and their all time greatest hit “Pour Some Sugar On Me“, proving their range is as potent as their power. There were no gimmicks, no contrived theatrics beyond the stunning light show and video presentations flanking Def Lep as they played. The true spectacle was the band itself: five consummate professionals who still play with the joy and energy of musicians half their age. For two hours in Hollywood, Def Leppard proved they wasn’t just a band from the past, but still a vital, explosive force that deserves to forever be known as hard rock royalty.
