Crosses Brings Darkwave to Atlanta

The Sultry Industrial Deftones Side-Project Delivered an Incredible Show To Atlanta – Review of the Crosses Concert at the Eastern in Atlanta, Georgia
The atmosphere crackled with anticipation on this chilly February evening as eager fans flooded into The Eastern, a renowned venue in the heart of Atlanta, Georgia. The reason for all the excitement was for the chance to see a rare performance of Crosses, a side project of Chino Moreno from the Deftones and Shaun Lopez from Far. The band very rarely tours due to the many other obligations of the band members, but the stars finally aligned for Crosses to set the stage on fire in support of the release of their amazing new album, “Goodnight, God Bless, I Love U, Delete“.
Kicking off the night was DJ Crook One, who wasted no time in igniting the crowd with a pulsating set. Seamlessly blending an eclectic mix of gothy tunes, Crook One’s expertly crafted transitions kept the energy levels soaring. Blending infectious 80’s synth-pop rhythms to throbbing electronic beats, he captivated the audience, setting the perfect tone for the night ahead.
As Crook One finished his set and the crowd’s hunger reached its peak, the lights dimmed again and smoke began to pour onto the stage. The haunting opening notes of the new album began to play as Crosses appeared in the shadows, shrouded in an aura of mystery and allure. From the moment the first notes resonated through the venue, it was evident that Crosses was here to deliver a transcendent musical experience. Chino Moreno and Shaun Lopez wasted no time kicking off the set with Invisible Hand as the fans went absolutely bonkers. Delving into their signature blend of dark, atmospheric rock infused with electronic elements, Crosses showcased their unique sound and style, proving that they are much more than just a simple “side project”.
Chino Moreno’s haunting sultry vocals soared above the intricate layers of sound, weaving a mesmerizing tapestry of emotion and intensity. Backed by Lopez’s atmospheric guitar work and synth lines, each song carried an undeniable weight, drawing the audience into a hypnotic trance. Tracks like “Ghost Ride” and “Pleasure” reverberated through the venue, their haunting melodies leaving an indelible impression on all who listened. Yet, amidst the dark and brooding atmosphere, moments of raw energy emerged. Songs like “This Is a Trick” ignited frenzied mosh pits, as fans surrendered themselves to the visceral experience unfolding before them. Crosses’ ability to seamlessly transition between moments of quiet introspection and explosive catharsis was a testament to their mastery as musicians, leaving the audience utterly captivated from start to finish.
As the final notes of “Option” echoed into the night, the crowd erupted into thunderous applause, a testament to the profound impact of Crosses’ performance. With their enigmatic stage presence and mesmerizing musical ability, Chino and Shaun had crafted an unforgettable evening, leaving a lasting impression on all who bore witness to their sonic journey. Crosses’ performance at The Eastern in Atlanta, Georgia, was nothing short of spectacular. From the mesmerizing opening set by Crook One to the transcendent performance by Crosses themselves, it was an evening filled with unforgettable moments and undeniable energy. For fans of atmospheric industrial rock and electronic music, this was an experience not to be missed, and I really hope the band decides to incorporate more touring into their schedule in the future.
