Metallica Executes a Thunderous Takeover of the Buccaneers’ Home Turf with Night Two of Their Historic “No Repeat Weekend” – Photos and Review of the Metallica Concert at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, FL

Heavy metal titans Metallica delivered a monumental performance on Sunday for night two of their “No Repeat Weekend” at Raymond James Stadium (home of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers) on their M72 World Tour, leaving more than 70,000 fans in awe. Having last played the city in 2009, the double dose of night filled with incredible heavy tunes ended the nearly 16 year drought for the Tampa Bay area, and fans couldn’t be more excited as they lined up early to be the first ones through the door for a chance to be front and center (and grab one of the epic posters at the merch booth). With a career-spanning setlist, pyro explosions, and thunderous riffs, this was a full-scale metal spectacle and a one-of-a-kind experience whether it was your first time seeing the band, or your twentieth.

Unlike traditional concerts where the band is set up in the front and faces one direction, Metallica’s innovative new 360-degree circular stage (positioned at the 50-yard line, with the band’s legendary “snake pit” full of the most loyal fans located right in the middle) allowed every seat in the stadium to feel like the best in the house. This unique setup featured an array of massive video screens hanging above the band, ensuring crystal-clear visuals no matter whether fans were seated high up or down in the pit. The members rotated spots around the stage throughout the night, giving everyone a chance to see James Hetfield, Kirk Hammett, Robert Trujillo, and Lars Ulrich up close. The production was nothing short of breathtaking—beams and lasers sliced through the air, flames erupted during key solos, and an intricate light show synchronized with every drum hit and guitar riff. The sheer scale of the performance matched the band’s legendary status, making it clear that Metallica isn’t content with sitting on their laurels and continue to push the boundaries of live concert production.

Suicidal Tendencies Showcase Their Crossover Thrash Fury

Kicking off the night was the venerable Suicidal Tendencies, the original pioneers of crossover thrash. As frontman Mike Muir stormed the stage with his trademark energy, sporting his iconic bandana and delivering rapid-fire vocals, and the band wasted no time tearing into fan favorites like “You Can’t Bring Me Down” and “Institutionalized,” the latter inciting a massive singalong as fans shouted along to the iconic “All I wanted was a Pepsi!” line.

The band’s blend of punk aggression and metal precision was the perfect way to get the crowd moving, and it was awesome to see the all star lineup of Dillinger Escape Plan mastermind Ben Weinman and ex-Slipknot drum phenom Jay Weinberg jamming together. Tracks like “Subliminal” and “Send Me Your Money” showcased the band’s relentless energy, while Muir’s engaging stage presence kept the audience hooked. By the time they closed with “Pledge Your Allegiance,” the entire stadium was warmed up and ready for more chaos.

Pantera: A Fierce Tribute to the Cowboys from Hell

Following Suicidal Tendencies was the reunited Pantera, paying homage to the legacy of Dimebag Darrell and Vinnie Paul Abbott with a crushing set of groove-metal anthems. Fronted by Phil Anselmo and featuring Zakk Wylde (guitar), Charlie Benante (drums), and Rex Brown (bass), the band delivered an incredible performance that was both a celebration and a powerful, fitting tribute. From the moment they launched into “A New Level,” the crowd erupted into a sea of headbanging, and while no man can truly replace Dime, Wylde did an phenomenal job capturing the spirit of his playing.

His blistering solos on “5 Minutes Alone” and “Walk” were met with deafening cheers, while Anselmo’s commanding growls on “Mouth for War” and “This Love” proved he hasn’t lost a step. The emotional peak came during “Cemetery Gates,” a tribute to Dimebag that had fans holding up lighters and phones in solidarity. Pantera’s set was a relentless barrage of riffs, proving that their music remains as vital today as it was in the ‘90s. By the time they closed with “Cowboys From Hell” the crowd was fully primed for Metallica’s arrival.

Metallica Unleashes A Treasure Trove of Classics for Night Two

As part of their No Repeat Weekend concept, Metallica ensured that night two’s setlist was entirely different from the previous night, giving fans who attended both shows a completely unique experience. The night’s festivities kicked off with the crushing “Whiplash” from their first album Kill ‘Em All, immediately igniting a mosh pit frenzy in the pit below as fans cheered. From there, the band transitioned into fan favorites like “For Whom the Bell Tolls” and “Ride the Lightning” from their groundbreaking album of the same name, and “The Memory Remains” which featured a stadium-wide singalong.

Metallica dug deep into their catalog, blending classic anthems, deeper cuts like “The Call of Ktulu” and new songs “Lux AEterna” and “Screaming Suicide”  from their new 72 Seasons record, ensuring that die-hard fans and casual listeners alike were satisfied. One of the most emotional moments came with “The Unforgiven,” as Hetfield’s raw vocals echoed through the stadium, backed by Hammett’s soulful guitar work. The final stretch of the set was pure fire—literally. The classic “Battery” began with its haunting intro before exploding into machine-gun drumming and searing solos, and more recent number “Moth Into Flame” sending shockwaves through the stadium. For the encore, the band returned with “One”, wow-ing the stadium with pyrotechnics that lit up the night sky, before ending the night with the timeless “Enter Sandman,” leaving the crowd in a state of euphoria.

With over 70,000 fans in attendance, the “No Repeat Weekend” concept ensured that those who attended both nights were treated to a completely different experience, making it a must-see for die-hard Metallica devotees. From the groundbreaking stage production to the career-spanning setlist, Metallica proved once again why they are the undisputed kings of metal. The opening acts Suicidal Tendencies and Pantera set the tone perfectly, delivering high-energy performances that honored their legacies while firing up the crowd. As the final notes of “Enter Sandman” faded into the Florida night, one thing was undeniable: Metallica’s reign is far from over, and their live shows remain the gold standard for heavy music. For those lucky enough to witness this Tampa spectacle, it was a night they’ll be talking about for years to come.
