Legendary Power Metal Bands Deliver an Incredibly Epic Show to the Masses of South Florida – Review and Photos of the DragonForce and Amaranthe Concert at the Culture Room in Ft Lauderdale

As the sun began to set over the palm-fringed coastline of Ft. Lauderdale, metal enthusiasts from all corners of the Sunshine State were lined up around the block waiting to get inside the Culture Room, eagerly anticipating a night of face-melting guitar solos, powerful vocals, and epic anthems. Two titans of modern power metal, Amaranthe and DragonForce, took over the stage on this memorable evening, supported by the exciting Edge of Paradise and the hilariously irreverent Nanowar of Steel.

The night kicked off with a burst of energy as the extraordinary Edge of Paradise took the stage. This Los Angeles-based symphonic metal band led by the enchanting Margarita Monet and six string master Dave Bates set the tone for the evening with their unique blend of powerful vocals and intricate guitar work. Their performance expertly combined Margarita’s theatrical stage presence with the impressive technical prowess of the rest of the band. The crowd was treated to a setlist that showcased the Edge of Paradise’s latest album “Hologram“, and the songs did a great job showcasing Monet’s wide vocal range and the band’s tight musicianship.

Following Edge of Paradise, the tone took a hilarious turn as Nanowar of Steel, the self-proclaimed masters of “parody metal” graced the stage. Hailing from Italy, this band’s mission is to make metal fans laugh while headbanging to their humorous, absurd, and downright ridiculous lyrics. Dressed in drag as they performed their anthems of absurdity, the band played songs such as “Uranus” and “Norwegian Reggaeton” much to the amusement of the crowd. While their humor might not be everyone’s cup of tea (it really wasn’t mine), their performance certainly added a unique flavor to the evening, and the audience couldn’t help but laugh (although whether is was “with them” or “at them” remains to be seen).

As Nanowar finished up their set and the night rolled on, it was time for Amaranthe to take the stage. This Swedish-Danish powerhouse has been redefining the boundaries of modern heavy music with their unique blend of power metal, electronic elements, and unique vocals featuring three singers. Their setlist was a rollercoaster of emotions and energy, featuring songs from throughout their storied body of works but heavily drawing from their latest album “Manifest“. Songs like “Digital World” and “Fearless” showcased Elize Ryd’s soaring vocals and recent addition Mikael Sehlin’s aggressive growls, while Olof Mörck’s virtuosic guitar work made for an electrifying performance. Amaranthe had an incredibly captivating stage presence and the crowd was mesmerized as they finished up their time on stage with “Drop Dead Cynical“.

The pinnacle of the evening was, of course, the headliner: DragonForce, and the British power metal veterans known for their blazing guitar solos did not disappoint. As the lights dimmed and lasers began to emanate from the back of the stage, twin guitar virtuosos Herman Li and Sam Totman appeared and climbed on top of the giant arcade video game cabinets that were set on both side of the stage. Kicking off their set with “Revolution Deathsquad“, the band led the audience on a journey through their extensive discography which even included some songs from their upcoming album “Warp Speed Warriors” which is due out next year.

DragonForce’s performance was nothing short of breathtaking as the lightning-fast guitar solos, soaring melodies, and epic lyrics transported the audience to fantastical realms. Vocalist Marc Hudson’s powerful voice perfectly complemented the technical brilliance of the instrumentalists, creating a harmonious blend that left the crowd in awe. The setlist featured classics like “Valley of the Damned” and “Cry Thunder“, and we even got a cover of Celene Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On“. DragonForce’s camaraderie and engagement with the audience made the performance even more memorable, with the crowd moshing and headbanging throughout the whole concert. DragonForce demonstrated why they are considered pioneers of modern power metal, and as they finished their time on stage with their most famous song “Through the Fire and Flames” their performance was an unforgettable experience for all in attendance.

As the final notes of DragonForce’s encore resonated through the Culture Room, the crowd was left breathless and exhilarated. The dual-headlining combo of Amaranthe and DragonForce, along with the entertaining opening acts Edge of Paradise and Nanowar of Steel resulted in an epic night of metal that won’t soon be forgotten by those fortunate enough to attend.
