Urijah Faber Prepares to Defend Featherweight Title Against Mike Brown.

November 3rd, 2008

In an exclusive interview, Urijah Faber, the reigning featherweight champion, opens up about his upcoming bout against the hard-hitting Florida native, Mike Brown. With over three years since his last loss, Faber maintains a stoic and determined demeanor as he looks ahead to this pivotal match.

The fight, originally scheduled to take place without a hitch, faced an unexpected delay due to inclement weather. However, this delay did not seem to faze the champion. Faber shared, “Nothing changed for me really; I’m always ready to fight.” His unshakable resolve and preparedness for any circumstance have been key to his success.

Urijah Faber, with an impressive record of 21-1, remains one of the most formidable fighters in the featherweight division. When asked about the growing target on his back as the champion, he replied, “I try to keep it as primal as possible, and that’s two guys going to fight, and one is going to win. I’m not trying to be on the losing end of anything.” Faber is clearly undeterred by the pressure that comes with being a champion.

As for his strategy against Mike Brown, Faber acknowledges the unpredictability of the fight. “With a guy like Mike Brown, you don’t really know what’s going to happen,” he explains. Brown is known for his clinch work, dirty boxing, and takedown expertise, but Faber has also seen him stand and trade blows with seasoned strikers. Faber’s plan is simple: “I’ll just be looking to win every position.”

One intriguing aspect of Faber’s career is his ability to finish fights quickly, rarely going the full distance. However, he remains fully prepared for a grueling battle. “I’m always prepared for a long battle,” Faber says. “I’ve been in title fights since my third fight, and I’ve had 21 fights, so I’m always preparing for a long battle, it just really hasn’t happened though aside from the last fight.”

Reflecting on his only loss, a past encounter with Tyson Griffin, Faber maintains his composure. “I don’t ever really think like that; I don’t really dwell on things,” he shares. “If that’s a fight that’s going to happen and the fans want to see it and things are right for it, then let’s do it.”

As fight fans eagerly await this thrilling featherweight showdown, Urijah Faber’s unwavering dedication to his craft and his ability to remain composed in the face of adversity will undoubtedly make this fight one for the ages. The spotlight will once again shine on the Octagon, and Faber is prepared to defend his title with all his might, regardless of the circumstances.
