NETFLIX AND MVP ANNOUNCE RONDA ROUSEY VS. GINA CARANO MMA SHOWDOWN

NETFLIX STEPS INTO THE CAGE: Ronda Rousey vs. Gina Carano SET FOR MAY 16 SUPER FIGHT AT Intuit Dome.

There are big fights and then there are fights that feel like they’ve been sitting in the combat sports group chat for fifteen years waiting for someone to finally press send.

That second category officially has a date.

Most Valuable Promotions is bringing professional MMA to Netflix for the first time ever and they are not easing into the water. They are cannonballing straight into history with a main event built on legacy, impact, and a whole lot of unfinished what if.

Ronda Rousey is coming back.

After a decade away from the cage, the former UFC champion and Olympic medalist returns May 16 to face the woman many consider the original face of women’s MMA, Gina Carano, in a five round featherweight showdown at 145 pounds inside the Intuit Dome in Los Angeles.

Yes, that fight.

The one fans debated for years. The one that never quite lined up in timing, promotions, or career arcs until now.

The event streams live globally on Netflix at no additional cost to its 300+ million subscribers, marking the platform’s first ever live MMA broadcast and MVP’s official entry into the sport after reshaping boxing’s streaming footprint.

And if recent history is any indicator, expect eyeballs.

Their previous partnership detonated viewership records. Paul vs. Tyson pulled 125 million viewers, while Taylor vs. Serrano 2 became the most watched professional women’s sporting event in U.S. history. Follow up mega cards only widened the lane. Now that production muscle shifts from the ring to the cage.

Ronda Rousey’s return alone would headline any card on the planet. She did not just win fights during her run. She changed the economic ceiling for women in combat sports. Pay per view draws. Main events. Crossover stardom. WWE headliner. Hollywood roles. She became the gravitational pull the division revolved around.

But before Rousey was the mainstream rocket, Gina Carano was the launchpad.

A Muay Thai destroyer turned MMA pioneer, Carano helped legitimize women’s fights at a time when they were still fighting for airtime, respect, and paydays. She headlined the first major female led MMA event and carried crossover appeal that pushed the sport into pop culture consciousness.

Different eras. Same impact.

Now they meet in the middle.

“Been waiting so long to announce this,” said Ronda Rousey. “Me and Gina Carano are gonna throw down in the biggest super fight in women’s combat sport history.”

Carano welcomed the callout with mutual respect and competitive fire.

“Ronda said there was only one person she would come back for. This is an honor. I plan to win and I expect it to be a war.”

Tickets go on sale Thursday, March 5 at 1 PM ET via Ticketmaster, with presale access available now at RouseyCarano.com. MVP VIP Owner’s Experience packages will also be available for fans looking to go full cageside luxury.

The promotional rollout begins that same day with a live kickoff press conference hosted by renowned combat sports journalist Ariel Helwani inside Intuit Dome, setting the tone for what is expected to be a nostalgia meets modern era media tour.

From a business standpoint, this fight doubles as a line in the sand moment.

MVP founders Jake Paul and Nakisa Bidarian have built their brand on disruption, spectacle, and global accessibility. Moving into MMA always felt inevitable. Doing it with the two most historically significant names in women’s fighting makes the entry feel less like a debut and more like a statement.

Netflix sees it the same way.

After testing live combat sports waters with boxing, executives wanted their MMA launch to feel generational, not experimental. Pairing Ronda Rousey’s comeback with Gina Carano’s return checked every box from legacy to crossover draw.

The setting fits the scale. Intuit Dome, the new home of the LA Clippers, opened in 2024 and has already welcomed more than a million fans through its doors. On May 16, it hosts its first true global MMA spectacle.

Undercard bouts are still to be announced, but the main event alone already carries the weight of a cultural bookmark.

Two pioneers.

Two eras.

One cage.

And finally, the fight that always felt one contract signature away from reality is no longer fantasy booking.

It is headlining Netflix.
