Joywave Brings an Ocean of Euphoria to South Florida
Joywave Delivers an Unforgettable Night of Electro-Flavored Indie Rock Magic – Photos and Review of the Joywave Concert at the Culture Room in Ft Lauderdale, FL
There’s something magical about witnessing a band hit their creative stride in front of a rapturous crowd, and last night Ft Lauderdale was lucky enough to witness exactly that. The Culture Room was transformed into a pulsating hub of indie rock energy as Joywave brought their electrifying live show to South Florida, with Little Image setting the stage ablaze as the opening act. From the moment doors opened, fans packed shoulder-to-shoulder in the famously intimate space, buzzing with anticipation for what would become one of those rare concert experiences where every element aligns perfectly—the band at peak performance, the crowd radiating infectious energy, and the setlist delivering one knockout punch after another.

Kicking off the night, Dallas-based trio Little Image proved why they’re a band fast on the rise, delivering a set that was equal parts hypnotic and explosive. Frontman Jackson Simmons moved with the restless energy of a performer born to command a stage, his vocals shifting seamlessly from haunting croons to full-throated cries. Backed by the tight, dynamic rhythm section of Troy Bruner (Drums) and Brandon Walters (Bass & Synths), the band’s sound—a mix of moody alt-rock and shimmering synth textures—felt both fresh and instantly familiar. Tracks like “WORTH IT“ and “OUT OF MY MIND“ had early arrivals nodding along, while the atmospheric “BLUE“ showcased the band’s ability to build tension before releasing it in cathartic waves.

As the lights dimmed and the opening synths of “Scared“ pulsed through the speakers, Joywave emerged to a roar of approval. Frontman Daniel Armbruster, dressed in his signature deadpan-cool style, immediately locked in with the crowd, his wry banter and effortless charisma making the packed venue feel like a private party. The setlist was a masterclass in pacing, balancing Joywave’s more recent tracks from their latest album “Permanent Pleasure” with their explosive, dance-ready hits. “Obsession“ had the crowd bouncing early, while deeper cuts like “Buy American“ and “Tongues“ showcased the band’s knack for blending sharp lyricism with irresistible hooks.

But it was the back half of the set where Joywave truly unleashed the crowd. “Somebody New“ turned the room into a shouting match between band and audience, while “Traveling At The Speed of Light“ had fists pumping in unison. Then came “Dangerous“—the band’s breakout hit—which ignited a frenzy of jumping and singing along. Armbruster, grinning as he watched the chaos, seemed to relish the moment as much as the fans did. The Culture Room, with its low ceilings and close-quarters setup, was the ideal space for Joywave’s brand of frenetic, audience-engaged performance. There were no barriers, no pretenses—just a band and a crowd feeding off each other’s energy throughout the night. Between songs, Armbruster’s dry humor kept things light, whether he was joking about Florida’s unpredictable weather or teasing the crowd about their singing abilities. The encore was a triumphant finale, with the band returning for a blistering rendition of “Swimming in The Glow“ before closing with “Destruction“, leaving the audience sweaty, exhilarated, and already craving another show.

From Little Image’s star-making opening set to Joywave’s relentless, genre-blurring headlining performance, this was a concert that reminded everyone why live music matters. Both bands brought something unique to the stage—Little Image with their moody, cinematic alt-rock, and Joywave with their razor-sharp songwriting and unstoppable energy. For those who were there, it was a night they won’t soon forget. And for those who missed it? Keep an eye on both bands—they’re only getting bigger.
