Priscilla Presley Reflects on Elvis

A Candid Conversation with Priscilla Presley on Love, Legacy and Laughter with The King.
Priscilla Presley has spent decades preserving the legacy of Elvis, but she’s also carved out a remarkable career of her own. As she prepares for her upcoming appearance at The Wick, she’s ready to share her story—one filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments.
When asked what fans can expect from her live show, Priscilla kept it simple: “Honesty.” For her, these events aren’t just rehearsed speeches or surface-level anecdotes. “It’s not like I get up there and talk about things that don’t really make a difference,” she explained. “It’s really about my life with Elvis—our love for each other, what happened, and the love I had for his family.” With a moderator guiding the discussion, she answers questions straight from the audience, creating a personal and interactive experience.
One of the biggest questions fans still ask is what Elvis would be doing if he were alive today. Priscilla isn’t sure he could have ever truly retired. “He loved performing, for sure,” she said. But would he have fit into today’s music industry? That’s harder to say. “Music is very different now,” she admitted. “His songs, his music—it had a message. And when he performed, he captivated the audience completely. You couldn’t hear a sound from them talking or chit-chatting. They were so focused on him.”
With the rise of social media, some wonder how Elvis would have handled the constant online presence and direct fan interactions. Priscilla acknowledged that while he loved connecting with his fans—especially in the early days when he would invite them inside Graceland—he never fully grasped the magnitude of his own fame. “He was so humble. He felt blessed, and that’s why he gave his all to the audience. He never wanted anyone to walk away disappointed.”
Elvis was also known to have a few superstitions, though Priscilla clarified they weren’t anything extreme. “Superstitious is a little different,” she said with a laugh. “But he did believe in putting on a good show—never just singing a song and throwing it away. He wanted to give back what the audience gave him.” She also revealed his deeply religious side, recalling how he would often read from the Bible, even sharing passages with fans in his early years.
But Priscilla’s life wasn’t only about Elvis—she built a name for herself in Hollywood, starring in Dallas and bringing comedic charm to The Naked Gun films. Working alongside Leslie Nielsen turned out to be an unexpected delight. “He was funny,” she recalled. “In movies and TV, he was always so serious, so I was surprised at just how great his sense of humor was.” Filming often turned into a battle to keep a straight face. “We would laugh so hard that it would take four or five takes to get through a scene. Even the director would start laughing!” She credited the Zucker brothers, the masterminds behind The Naked Gun, for fostering a relaxed and fun atmosphere on set.
As for lingering misconceptions about Elvis? Priscilla struggled to name one. Instead, she marveled at how his legacy continues to grow. “Even young children come to Graceland—six, seven, eight years old—and now they’re older, and they still go back,” she said. “It’s captivating to see just how beloved he is worldwide, not just in America.”
With a lifetime of stories to tell, Priscilla continues to embrace her role as both storyteller and guardian of Elvis’s legacy. Whether reminiscing about their time together, sharing behind-the-scenes Hollywood tales, or simply enjoying a good laugh, she’s ready to give audiences a show to remember.
