Boca Black Box Flips Out With Laughter
Flip Schultz Brings Big Smiles, Bigger Laughs and a Bass Guitar Full of Punchlines to Boca Black Box.
May 9th, 2026
Flip Schultz brought a lively, personality-driven set to the intimate confines of Boca Black Box that felt less like watching a comic perform and more like getting trapped in the world’s funniest group chat for an hour and a half. The smaller venue setup worked perfectly for Schultz’s style, allowing the audience to feel fully part of the experience rather than simply watching from a distance.
A veteran comic who has toured with George Carlin and appeared on programs like Live at Gotham and Comics Unleashed, Schultz worked the room with the confidence of somebody who has spent years turning awkward life moments into comedy gold… or at the very least, comedy silver with excellent timing.
Playing to a crowd that featured plenty of fellow Jews, along with several of his own family members in attendance, Schultz immediately leaned into the Boca atmosphere. At times, the room felt like part comedy club, part family reunion. The audience ate it up.
The material bounced comfortably between personal experiences, observational humor and crowd work, all stitched together by Schultz’s animated delivery style. His physical cues and voice impressions added an entirely different flavor to the jokes. One second he’d be calmly setting up a story, the next his face would contort into a full-blown character performance that looked like a rejected extra from a Saturday morning cartoon lineup. In the best possible way.
What really helped carry the evening was Schultz’s infectious smile and naturally upbeat presence. Before some punchlines even landed, people already found themselves grinning because of how much fun he was clearly having on stage. Some comedians walk out looking like they’re preparing to argue with the audience. Schultz looked like he was genuinely thrilled to be there causing harmless chaos.
The crowd work also stayed sharp throughout the night. Schultz never bullied audience members or forced interactions that dragged too long. Instead, the banter felt playful, quick and organic. He had a knack for making people part of the joke without making them want to crawl under the table and fake a medical emergency.
As the night wound down, Schultz added one more wrinkle by picking up a bass guitar for a rapid-fire string of quick hitter jokes. Before diving in, he started playfully polling the crowd on whether they wanted older classics or newer experimental material, leading to a surprisingly spirited debate throughout the room. Some people wanted the polished greatest hits. Others wanted to hear the fresh stuff still marinating in the comedy lab. Schultz happily bounced between both, almost treating the ending like a late-night jam session where punchlines replaced guitar solos.
Some jokes carried the smooth confidence of material sharpened over years on the road. Others had that exciting “let’s see where this goes” energy that made the audience feel like they were in on the creative process itself. Even the newer bits landed well, which says a lot considering comedy audiences can sometimes react to unfinished material like a seagull reacting to somebody stealing its French fries.
All in all, everything landed. From the pacing to the crowd interaction to the physical comedy, Schultz turned the evening into exactly what live stand-up should be. Loose, energetic, silly and flat-out fun. Boca got a great night of laughs, a few bass lines and probably several sore cheeks from smiling too much.
