Jane’s Addiction and Love & Rockets Ignite South Florida With An Unforgettable Night of Alternative Rock – Photos and Feature on the Janes Addiction and Love & Rockets Concert at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL

Alternative Rock fans gathered from all over South Florida this weekend to witness what many thought they might never see again: not only have Love & Rockets reunited for an American tour, but Jane’s Addiction have returned with their original lineup for the first time in over 14 years. The show was a dynamic blend of nostalgia and raw energy, with old school devotees and new fans alike having the times of their lives.

First up was Crawlers, a fast rising English band with a unique sound that bridged punk, grunge and alternative rock. Opening up the night with “I Don’t Want It“, the band’s charismatic stage presence and enthusiastic performance immediately captured the audience’s attention. Hailing from Liverpool, the British upstarts came from across the pond to showcase their debut album “The Mess We Seem To Make” which released earlier this year, along with some other tracks like “Come Over (Again)“, a song which went viral and helped propel the band to opening up for one of the biggest tours of the year. Their performance was a blend of raw emotion and tight musicianship, with lead singer Holly Minto dancing around the stage as she belted the lyrics with an infectious energy, leaving the crowd eager for more. I see big things in this band’s future, and can’t wait to see what they come up with next!

As the lights dimmed once again and Love & Rockets took the stage, the atmosphere shifted to one of reverence and anticipation as the crowd knew they were about to witness history. After a 14 year absence, Love & Rockets reunited last year for a string of performances, and there are whispers that this is set to be their last tour together before another hiatus. The band, consisting of former Bauhaus members Daniel Ash, David J, and Kevin Haskins, kicked things off with “The Light” and proceeded to deliver a performance that was both a tribute to their storied past and a reminder of their enduring influence.

The setlist was a carefully curated journey through their catalog, with each song evoking a different era of their career. The deep, atmospheric soundscapes of their more experimental tracks like “Haunted When The Minutes Drag” were balanced by the  energy of their more mainstream hits such as “No Big Deal“. Of course, Love & Rockets didn’t forget fan favorites like “So Alive” and “No New Tale to Tell“, and the band once again demonstrated why they remain one of the most respected acts in alternative rock, and the audience responded in kind, with applause filling the venue after every song. Finishing up their time on stage with “Yin and Yang (The Flowerpot Man)“, the band disappeared into the back to the roar of a cheering crowd who knew they just witnessed something special.

As the main course for the evening, Jane’s Addiction brought their signature blend of alternative rock and theatrical flair to the audience. As the lights dimmed and the band’s logo shined brightly behind them, frontman Perry Farrell stormed to the front in a whirlwind of energy along with the rest of the band, commanding the stage with his distinctive voice and charismatic presence. With the return of guitar extraordinaire Dave Navarro (who has been sitting out of touring as he battled long COVID) and Eric Avery (who rejoined in 2022), this is the first tour with the original lineup in almost 15 years. Dave Navarro’s guitar work was as electrifying as ever, weaving intricate solos and powerful riffs that perfectly complemented the band’s dynamic sound.

Launching off with deep cut “Kettle Whistle“, Jane’s Addiction showcased why they’re still considered one of the pioneers of the Alternative Rock sound of the 90’s. The setlist was both a celebration of their greatest hits, with fan favorites like “Jane Says” and “Mountain Song“, and rare tracks like “Pigs in Zen” and “Summertime Rolls” all making an appearance. What I particularly enjoyed was that almost all the songs played were from the era when all 4 of the original members were together (save for the opening track and the recently released “Imminent Redemption” which marked their first release with the original lineup in 34 years). The visual elements of the show were just as captivating, with elaborate lighting and stage design that added to the theatricality of the performance.

Jane’s Addiction has always been known for their ability to blend music with visual art, and this concert was no exception, as the combination of sound and sight created an immersive experience that left the audience in awe. Finishing up their time on stage with their most famous tracks “Been Caught Stealing” and “Stop!” along with another deep cut “Chip Away“, the band took their final bow as the crowd cheered for more. From the promising energy of Crawlers to the nostalgic journey of Love & Rockets and the theatrical brilliance of Jane’s Addiction, the evening was a celebration of alternative rock in all its forms. Each band brought something unique to the stage, creating a concert experience that was both diverse and deeply satisfying.
