Speak Fluent Music? Gabby B Does—In Seven Languages
From singing the National Anthem at the Chicago Bulls’ United Center to performing for her growing global fanbase, Gabby B is making waves in the music world—and she’s doing it on her own terms.
November 21st, 2024
The multilingual sensation, known for seamlessly blending reggaeton rhythms with Brazilian funk and a dash of pop flair, is riding the high of a whirlwind year. Fresh off the release of three singles in just two months, she’s juggling performances, studio time, and an ever-expanding list of fans across the globe. Yet, through it all, Gabby remains grounded in one simple truth: the world of music moves fast, and she’s here to keep up. “Everything is moving so quickly, so you have to keep up and move quickly with everybody,” she says. “And like, everyone has such a short attention span now, so that’s why I like to release more often. People just want more.”
The opportunity to perform the National Anthem, an honor she’s now had twice, is not something she takes lightly. While she may not be a lifelong basketball fan, her connection to the Chicago Bulls has deepened since she first performed for them. “I learned more about basketball like, what, three years ago?” Gabby admits. “I watched the Miami Heat a lot, and I know a lot of the players there. But the Bulls… it’s just an amazing experience. The first time I did it, they gave me this private room and even a headset to hear myself back. It was really professional and felt really special.”
What sets Gabby B. apart in the music world is her fluency in four languages (English, Spanish, Portuguese and French). In a world that often focuses on language barriers, Gabby uses her linguistic talents to her advantage. “I can sing in more like seven languages,” she shares, revealing how the process comes naturally to her when creating music. “When I think of a song, I connect it with a pattern in my head, almost like drawing. I just stick to that pattern. But when I’m speaking, I definitely mix up languages,” she laughs. “Right now, I’m learning Italian, and that sometimes messes with my head. But I love languages, and I think it’s really cool.” Gabby’s diverse language skills don’t just influence her singing but also allow her to connect with a wide-reaching audience around the world. “I see fans from places like Asia, Europe, and Africa. It’s amazing. I love how music connects us all.”
Her latest singles, “AMG,” “Sorry No Confio” ft Genio La Musa and “Brinca” ft Brray, which just released last week, are a perfect blend of genres. With reggaeton rhythms and Brazilian funk influences, Gabby brings her own flair to the tracks. When asked what kind of dance move would match the energy of the songs, she responds with excitement. “Oh, definitely funk! Funk is like a drug for me. You take it and just go. It’s got the hip action, floor action, everything,” she says. It’s clear that Gabby’s music is all about energy, passion, and bringing a unique vibe to the global music scene.
With the upcoming release of her Latin-themed EP, Gabby reflects on how her cultural background influences her music. “Living in Miami, where there’s such a strong Hispanic culture, has definitely shaped me. I’ve embraced reggaeton, mixed it with Brazilian influences, and brought in funk elements. It’s a reflection of who I am and where I come from.” This fusion of cultures isn’t just a gimmick for Gabby—it’s at the heart of her artistry. The EP will be a celebration of her Latin roots, yet with a distinctly Gabby twist that highlights her Brazilian heritage and her love for mixing languages.
As for balancing her global fanbase, Gabby embraces the diversity of her audience and her music’s ability to cross borders. “The world is more accepting of diverse sounds now. I just make music that feels right, and it’s working. I’m like a fusion of styles, and I love it.” This blend of influences has given Gabby the freedom to explore different genres, from urban pop to reggaeton to Brazilian funk, without being confined to any one label.
Her success is also tied to how she uses social media to connect with her fans. Whether it’s sharing snippets of her music on TikTok or engaging with followers through Instagram Live, Gabby knows how to keep her audience engaged. “You have to have social media now. You’ve got to engage with people, make them feel part of the process,” she says. Gabby is constantly evolving and adapting to the ways that technology helps shape her career, while remaining authentic to herself and her fanbase.
Looking ahead, Gabby is excited about where her career will take her, and she sees the next few years as an opportunity to continue growing both as an artist and as a person. “My ultimate goal is just to keep spreading positivity,” she shares. “I want my fans to feel like family. I want them to know that I’m always real with them, and that I care about them. If my music helps someone feel good or empowered, that means everything to me.” Gabby also has big dreams for the future, with aspirations to expand into the fashion world by launching her own brand, reflecting the versatility and entrepreneurial spirit that drives her.
When asked about her dream collaboration, Gabby lists a range of artists from different genres, all of whom she admires. “I’d love to work with artists like Emile Leah from the Latin side, Luísa Sonza from Brazil, or even someone like Lil Nas X. I think his vibe is so cool.” Shakira also makes the list, showing Gabby’s desire to collaborate with the biggest names in both Latin and global pop music.
As for a big performance in the future, Gabby is ready to take the stage in front of a global audience. If she had to choose one song from her catalog to perform on the biggest stage in the world, it would likely be Liche, a track that blends three languages and showcases her cultural fusion. “It’s got a bit of everything—English, Portuguese, and Spanish. That’s what I love, mixing different parts of myself into one song.” And as for costume changes during that performance? Gabby laughs, “Oh, maybe three or four, depending on how much time they give me. But I’ll definitely bring the energy!”
Gabby B’s journey is just beginning, but her ability to blend cultures, languages, and genres is already making waves in the music industry. Her passion for connecting with her fans and her drive to innovate ensures that her career will only continue to grow. As she keeps pushing boundaries and embracing new opportunities, Gabby’s global influence is sure to leave a lasting mark on the world of music.
