BeBe Winans Turns a Concert Into a Testament of Faith

The Gospel Icon, Bebe Winans, Invited a Sold-Out Audience Into a Life Shaped by Music, Compassion and Resilience.

June 13th, 2026

There is a distinct, undeniable magic that happens when gospel royalty steps into a room. On Saturday night, the Kravis Center was filled to capacity as a beautifully diverse, sold-out crowd gathered to witness the legendary BeBe Winans.

From the moment he stepped onto the stage, it was clear this wasn’t going to be just another slick, over-rehearsed concert. True to his lifelong inspiration, Gladys Knight, BeBe didn’t just perform. He invited us in. His warm “hello” and effortless presence made a massive theater feel like a cozy Sunday dinner.

Born Benjamin Winans, the seventh child and youngest son of Detroit’s iconic Winans family, BeBe has spent decades navigating the heights of fame. The six-time Grammy Award winner is an inspirational, R&B and popular vocalist who, alongside his sister CeCe, became one of the first gospel artists to truly break into the mainstream. Yet despite the crossover success, the multi-platinum hits and the distinguished gray hair that reflects a lifetime of experience, he remains remarkably grounded.

Throughout the evening, he blended music with rich storytelling, bringing a transparent vulnerability to the stage. He shared a hilarious glimpse into his everyday life, joking about returning home to the lovable chaos of his two needy Bengal cats that completely demand his attention. The story became a thoughtful metaphor for faith. Like a cat resting without fear of tomorrow, BeBe showed what it means to truly rest in God.

He also shared stories about his upbringing, recalling how his father encouraged him never to copy his brothers but to find his own voice. That foundation of confidence later allowed him to casually direct the legendary Stevie Wonder in the studio. With a smile, he even revealed that many of his biggest hits were written while sitting alone in his car in random parking lots.

The evening was a masterclass in genre-fluid soul. Early in their careers, record labels struggled to categorize BeBe and CeCe because they didn’t fit neatly into traditional gospel. On this night, that crossover freedom became one of his greatest strengths.

The audience was deeply moved as he performed songs that reflected a lifetime of healing, grief and purpose. It was an emotional journey that clearly resonated with audience member Beverly White.

“He is really a man of God and lives his life based on love,” White said. “I really enjoyed the show. The only thing that was missing is that old-time gospel music.”

While the traditional hand-clapping church numbers may have been fewer than some expected, the spiritual resonance was undeniable. When BeBe reflected on the therapeutic process of writing about the devastating loss of Whitney Houston in his book, The Whitney I Knew, the theater grew remarkably quiet.

In a world often filled with noise, division and an eagerness for answers, BeBe Winans offered an evening centered on compassion. Channeling the wisdom of Maya Angelou, he reminded the audience that people might forget what you say, but they never forget how you made them feel.

By the time the final notes echoed through the Kravis Center, the sold-out crowd had witnessed more than a performance from an iconic artist. They had experienced an evening rooted in faith, hope and humanity. His message lingered well beyond the final applause.
