Tennis Legends Shine at Delray Beach Open
Lobs, Laughs and Living Legends: Opening Night Proves Delray’s Magic Goes Beyond the Baseline.
February 13th, 2026
What makes the Delray Beach Open feel different from so many other professional tour stops is not simply the tennis. It is the access, the looseness, and the sense that once the sun dips below the palm trees, anything can unfold inside the intimate stadium setting.
That unpredictability came alive immediately during the Champions and Legends exhibitions that helped shape the tone of opening night.
The first showcase featured Murphy Jensen alongside his brother Luke Jensen taking on the polished pairing of Tommy Haas and Jan-Michael Gambill. On paper, the matchup read like a classic legends clash filled with accomplished resumes and recognizable shotmaking. In practice, it quickly became something far more theatrical.

Murphy, never one to let formality linger, turned the exhibition into pure crowd driven entertainment. Mid rally, and in the middle of live play no less, he paused long enough to recruit a fan from the stands. Waving him down with the confidence of a coach calling in a substitute, Murphy invited a bewildered spectator, David Kahn, soon dubbed “the green hat guy” onto the court to play out the point. Racket in hand and adrenaline clearly surging, the fan stepped into the action to the roar of a crowd that instantly realized this was no ordinary tennis moment.

The exchange was unscripted, hilarious, and completely on brand, a reminder that in Delray even the fans can get a chance to step up to the service line.
Equally memorable was the shared energy across the net. Murphy and Luke wore smiles from first serve through match point, laughing through rallies, playing to the stands, and soaking in the atmosphere even in defeat. Haas and Gambill, consummate professionals throughout their careers, could not help but lean into the moment as well, grinning through Murphy’s antics and embracing the lighthearted spirit that defined the match.

It was competitive tennis served with a wink, where the jokes landed almost as clean as the volleys.
That balance of elite talent and relaxed showmanship captured Delray’s identity better than any box score ever could. World class athletes competing seriously enough to entertain, yet loose enough to invite fans directly into the experience.
As opening night continued, the star power only grew.
The evening’s second Legends feature welcomed one of the most decorated doubles teams in tennis history as Bob Bryan and Mike Bryan took the court to a warm reception. Across the net stood an entertaining combination featuring Grand Slam champion Juan Martín del Potro alongside former ATP pro Jesse Levine.
Even before the opening serve, the scoreboard felt like a time capsule. The Bryan Brothers’ name still carries a gravitational pull among tennis fans, their synchronized movement and instinctive net play instantly recognizable. Once play began, they wasted little time reminding the crowd why their partnership defined an era. Crisp poaches, perfectly weighted lobs, and reflex volleys struck clean winners that had fans applauding point after point.

They were not just winning rallies, they were placing exclamation marks on them.
Del Potro, meanwhile, drew audible appreciation with every swing. Even in an exhibition setting, the familiar weight behind his forehand echoed through the venue, a shot still capable of painting the lines when called upon. Paired with Levine, the duo blended finesse with force, producing rallies that balanced the Bryans’ net pressure with baseline firepower.

Like the earlier match, the tone never strayed far from fun. Smiles remained constant, applause came easily, and the camaraderie between all four players reinforced the fan friendly culture that defines Delray’s Champions showcases.
And while opening night delivered its share of memorable moments, the Legends spotlight is far from finished.
Looking ahead to Saturday night, the tournament will present a doubles showdown layered in both history and personality as the Jensen brothers prepare to face the Bryan brothers in a cross generational clash at the Delray Beach Open.
In the 1990s, Luke and Murphy Jensen captured the imagination of the tennis world, highlighted by their run to the 1993 French Open title. More than champions, they were entertainers who injected charisma, unpredictability, and crowd connection into a sport still finding its comfort with personality driven expression.
In the 2000s, Bob and Mike Bryan carried that mantle forward while elevating excellence to unprecedented heights. Sixteen Grand Slam titles, an Olympic gold medal, and a record six Delray Beach Open championships together cemented their legacy as the most accomplished doubles team in professional tennis history.
Now, with both duos stepping back onto the same court, fans will witness a rare blend of eras colliding. Showmanship meets precision. Nostalgia meets sustained greatness. All within the relaxed, intimate, and fan immersed atmosphere that continues to make Delray Beach one of the most uniquely enjoyable stops on the tennis calendar.
Where legends return, rackets swing freely, and the good times keep getting served.
