Eco-Chic, Flavor-Packed, and Drama-Free: Why This Secluded Dominican Resort Might Just Be Your New Favorite Getaway.

May 14 – May 18, 2025

Tired of the same old resort routine? Want something that blends barefoot luxury with eco-chic charm, jaw-dropping natural beauty, and food that actually makes you stop talking mid-bite? Then buckle up, because Viva Miches by Wyndham flips vacations on its head with a full-blown, soul-refreshing experience.

Let’s be honest—most resorts blur together. You’ve seen the same buffets, same crowds, same cookie-cutter pool scenes. But Miches isn’t just another stamp on your passport. This place feels like you’ve stumbled into a well-kept secret—one with wild beauty, warm hospitality, and an unexpectedly elegant edge.

Where in the World is Miches?

Let’s start with the setting—because it’s what makes this place feel magical. Miches isn’t Punta Cana. It’s not La Romana. It’s better. This new Wyndham gem is nestled along Playa Esmeralda, a secluded, untouched slice of Caribbean heaven on the northeastern coast of the Dominican Republic. Think long stretches of this sugar-soft sand beach is so quiet you can hear the breeze whispering through the palm trees. It is the soul of the resort and best yet it can be enjoyed without the hassle of obnoxious vendors. You’ll never fight for space here. Whether you’re up for a long morning walk, a sunset photo session, or taking in a private romantic beachfront dinner serenaded by a live saxophone player (yes, this can actually be arranged), this is the kind of beach that makes you whisper, “Please don’t let the world discover this place just yet.”

Getting there is easy: about 1.5 hours from the Punta Cana International Airport. As you cruise into Miches you’ll pass fields loaded with cows, clusters of palm trees, and locals on motorcycles or horseback. You get the sense you’re heading somewhere different. Somewhere more authentic. And when that first welcoming cocktail hits your hand before you even check in? You know you’re in for something special.

First Impressions: Nature, Nurtured

Viva Miches is barely out of diapers—having opened in late 2024—but wow, does it already know how to impress. The entire property is gorgeously laid out: eco-conscious, airy, and massive in size without ever feeling overwhelming. It’s like a luxury resort grew organically out of the beach and jungle, with natural tones and thoughtful touches at every turn.

Whether you’re relaxing in one of the resort’s 535 rooms—like the garden-view Comfort Room or the Splash Oceanfront Room with its private plunge pool and sunrise views—you’ll be surrounded by comfort and coastal charm. Each room features soft, neutral décor, plush beds, large TVs, and eco-friendly touches such as refillable glass water bottles and nearby hydration stations that help reduce single-use plastics. Built under the Wyndham Green Certification program, the resort runs on solar power, avoids single-use plastics, and partners with Protortuga to help protect endangered sea turtles. So yes—you can sip your mojito and help save the planet too.

One small ask? A handle on the outside of the sliding glass doors would make patio time a bit smoother. Also: a beetle and a baby frog did stop by uninvited. Nature is very present here, in the quirkiest ways.

A Buffet Worth Bragging About (and Then Some)

Let’s talk food—specifically, Buffet El Lago. The word “buffet” might not usually scream exceptional, but here, it’s more like a culinary wonderland. Forget soggy pizza and tired steam trays—this vibrant, ever-changing international buffet is packed with bold flavors and options to satisfy every craving. From sizzling Latin spices and local favorites to global comfort food classics, it’s all on the table. Highlights include three live stir-fry stations—Carne, Fish, and Pasta—plus two soups, a generous salad bar, a pizza station, an impressive variety of breads, a tempting dessert spread, and so much more.

But the true culinary showstoppers? The à la carte restaurants. Atlantis is a crown jewel for seafood lovers — a serene sanctuary where the Tuna Tartare is fresh, bright, and impossibly delicate, and the Octopus is seared to tender perfection. Every dish feels artfully composed, both in flavor and presentation.

Latin Fusion bursts with color and passion, from its lively décor to a menu that spans the flavors of Peru, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Cuba, Brazil, Chile, and, of course, the Dominican Republic. Highlights included the Tucumán Meat Empanada from Argentina — a golden, savory pastry filled with beef, onions, peppers, olives, and hard-boiled egg, served with chorizo and house-made Tucumán sauce. The Reina Pepiada Arepa from Venezuela impressed with its creamy mix of shredded chicken, onion, avocado, and mayonnaise packed into a warm cornmeal arepa. For the main course, the Grilled Churrasco with Chimichurri from Argentina was perfectly seasoned and juicy, paired with a crisp, refreshing salad. And for dessert, the Cajeta Crepes from Mexico delivered a sweet finale — rich cajeta, toasted peanuts, and a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Still, the most memorable experience came from Oriental Fusion. Our teppanyaki chef turned dinner into a full-on show, with high-energy, up-close theatrics and dishes that packed a flavorful punch. From the sizzling fried rice to the juicy chicken and steak, every bite transported us across the Pacific with bold, savory flair.

Although I didn’t get the chance to try the Mediterranean restaurant, I was told it offers guests a passport to coastal classics — a culinary journey I’d love to take next time.

Also, for those seeking something extra special, the resort offers for an additional cost the option to arrange a private beachside dinner — complete with a dedicated server, elegant setup, and a live saxophone serenade under the stars. It’s romantic, intimate, and utterly unforgettable — the kind of dining moment that becomes a highlight of your entire trip.

Separate from the à la carte’s is The Creperie, a sweet tooth’s paradise, perfect for a late-night treat or simply a warm cup of coffee or hot chocolate.

Got dietary restrictions? No worries—they’re incredibly accommodating. The staff will tweak dishes with care and creativity.

And when hunger strikes poolside? Grab a hot dog, nachos, or a brick-oven pizza to-go. It’s all fresh, fast, and satisfying.

Action Meets Relaxation

Whether you’re craving adventure or dreaming of a hammock nap, Viva Miches delivers on both. You can kayak through turquoise waters, snorkel at coral reefs, or channel your inner Federer with a game of tennis or pickleball. There are two sprawling pools (one with a swim-up bar, of course), and if zen is more your thing, morning yoga and oceanfront massages await. Also, during the day, a DJ and entertainment staff regularly pop up poolside, turning relaxation into a low-key celebration with games, dancing, and activities that make even the shyest guest crack a smile.

At night? The vibe transforms. From authentic local performances to full-on productions like Lion King the Musical. The entertainment is vibrant, professional, and worthy of applause. It’s the kind of resort where you look forward to sundown, because you know something fun, dramatic, or just plain cool is about to happen. It’s truly a perfect balance—more lively than your average nature retreat, but way calmer than a spring break hotspot.

Spa & Serenity: Find Your Float

Need to reset? Head to the spa, where massages are so relaxing they should come with a warning: you may actually forget what day it is. Couples are also welcome to get massages side-by-side.

Excursions for the Curious and Adventurous Explorer

Want to venture beyond the resort? This is nature-lover nirvana. Boat to hidden coves. Hike Montana Redonda for views that’ll max out your camera roll. Visit rice plantations and learn local farming techniques on local fruits and vegetables. Go scuba diving or snorkeling. Go horseback riding. Explore the mystical caves and channels of Los Haitises National Park. Or visit Playa El Limon, a secluded beach so serene it feels like your own secret hideaway. From January to March, you can even hop on a whale-watching cruise.

Craving more adventure? The resort can set you up on a beachside ATV tour and a thrilling zipline from the mountaintops. And don’t be surprised if a few friendly kittens or puppies cross your path—it’s all part of the charm.

Family Fun Without the Chaos

While Viva Miches feels sophisticated and romantic enough for couples, it’s also wonderfully family-friendly. The Kids’ Club offers supervised fun for ages 4–12, freeing up adults to soak in the serenity—or that second round at the swim-up bar. Teens will find their own mix of fun and freedom, too.

And with free Wi-Fi throughout the resort, your kids can stay connected, your partner can post sunrise selfies, and you can… totally pretend you’re off the grid if you want.

A Sweet Finish (Literally)

Oh—and did we mention there’s a Chocolate store on-site? Because what’s paradise without a little cocoa-induced happiness? Seriously, you have got to try the chocolate-flavored tea. In about three months the resort will be adding an ice cream store which will be open until midnight.

People & Pace: Warm, Welcoming, and Wonderfully Local

The staff here? Incredible. Warm, playful, and mostly bilingual (Spanish and English), they’re quick with a smile and eager to help. That said, brushing up on a few basic Spanish phrases will go a long way in making interactions even smoother.

Now—fair’s fair. While most service is prompt and attentive, especially in restaurants and at check-in, the pool bar can get sluggish during peak hours. Sometimes you’ll get your drink in minutes; other times it’s a waiting game. A minor hitch in an otherwise smooth ride.

The Final Word

In a sea of all-inclusives, Viva Miches by Wyndham is something rare: it’s new, it’s gorgeous, and it’s genuinely peaceful without being boring. It’s where eco-conscious travelers, foodie adventurers, couples, families, and wanderers all find common ground—on a beach that still feels like a secret.

Compared to its Wyndham siblings—Dominicus Beach, Tangerine, V Heavens—Viva Miches stands out like a seashell in the sand. It’s the most modern, the most nature-connected, and hands-down the most thoughtfully curated of the bunch.

So go ahead. Book the plunge pool. Order the tuna tartare. And lose yourself in this little slice of Dominican paradise… before the rest of the world finds out about it.
