Why Great Wolf Lodge is Every Kid’s Dream Vacation

The Perfect Family Vacation Exists—And It’s at Great Wolf Lodge Williamsburg, Where Nonstop Adventure, Thrilling Water Slides, and Unforgettable Memories Await!

March 25th – 26th, 2025

Ultimate highlight for kids ages 1-99!

I can honestly say that no place is better geared for children and their unbridled excitement than the Great Wolf Lodge. You can provide for them an amazing vacation, jampacked with incredible destinations (spoken from experience), but what they remember most and tell everyone about is the Great Wolf Lodge.

The moment you drive onto their property, it takes every effort just to keep your children in their seats and the wonderment only grows from there. As you park the car, huge wolf statues greet you at the entrance as your kids begin to howl at them in some language that only they fully understand.

I came with my wife, two kids under 10, and an infant in our stroller. My two children that were not buckled down managed to stay with me at the check-in Line for a record breaking 20 seconds. They hopped around with excitement, trying to take it all in. As curiosity grabbed ahold of them, they took part in a crafting class, where they got to make colorful Great Wolf Lodge buttons.

One of the best decisions that we made was upgrading the kids’ experiences to Wolf Passes and also purchasing the Meal Deal. Not only did these add-ons save my family a lot of money, but they helped keep them busy for the two days that we were there with so much to do.

Here’s the breakdown and why these passes are an absolute must! For the $99.99 Wolf Pass you get:

  • One MagiQuest game
  • Choice of Vellara Wand, standard Wand Mod, or Magi belt
  • One Build a Bear animal
  • One $10 Paw Points game card for Northern Lights Arcade
  • One VR Game
  • One Kid’s Ice Cream
  • One game of bowling at Ten Paw Alley
  • One game of laser tag
  • One small candy cup from GW Candy Shop

MagiQuest alone, with its included wand, pays for itself. My kids loved this interactive multi-floor game that was as mentally stimulating as it was fun. As a bonus, it was great that they saved their progress of the game. So, if you can’t finish it in one day, then you can pick back up where you left off.

The Great Wolf Lodge has a wonderful Build-a-Bear location which features all their characters. My son got the glow-in-the-dark Foli and my daughter got Sammy Squirrel. Their hands were always full with these stuffed animals, collector Wolf bottles, cups of jellybeans, sours, and other candies, and of course their Magi-quest wands.

The Laser Tag area was a lot of fun and bigger than I thought it would be. I was able to have a private game with my family, which thankfully I won (although my son said I cheated). Next door is a Virtual Game area where you get to choose your theming. The Underwater virtual world was very cool.

Down the hallway was their Ten Paw Alley. This little bowling alley was really neat. You get to choose the animation theming and throw these little bowling balls that are light enough for anyone to manage. My wife won this one, so she must’ve cheated somehow.

The rooms at the Great Wolf Lodge are clean, comfortable, quiet and spacious. This creates the perfect contrast to the hustle and bustle activity-laden atmosphere of the lodge itself. If you can splurge a little more on your suite, definitely check out their themed rooms, like the Wolf Den Suite with its separated bunk beds for the kiddos.

With our Full Day Meal Deal passes for only $44.99 you get:

  • Breakfast buffet at The Loose Moose Family Kitchen
  • $15 lunch credit to use at Buckets or Hungry As A Wolf
  • Dinner buffet at The Loose Moose Family Kitchen

Hungry As A Wolf had some good cheesy pizzas, salads and pasta dishes, but The Loose Moose Family Kitchen was where it was at. I was pleasantly surprised with just how good their buffets were. Breakfast had all the fixings and more. There was biscuits n’ gravy, home fries, crispy bacon, sausage, fluffy pancakes, muffins, a delicious breakfast pizza and an omelet station with a chef making them just the way you want. Dinner was top notch as well, with a plethora of delectable options from salmon to chicken, meatballs and mac & cheese. The chef this time was pressing down some made-to-order quesadillas.

The best way to burn off all those extra calories was definitely at their waterpark. This 55,000 square foot indoor waterpark was easily the centerpiece of the Great Wolf Lodge. Each section offered so much for every age bracket and adventure seeker. My little toddler (who could only sit up) loved their Cub Paw Pool as the low water level was perfect for him.

My younger daughter (not a thrill seeker) really enjoyed the small Whooping Hollow slides and the multi-tiered Fort Mackenzie with its giant falling water bucket. This area was packed with fun (non-intimidating) slides and squirting features everywhere.

There was a nice relaxing lazy river called the Crooked Creek, where you could just bask on one of their inner tubes. A wave pool named Slap Tail Pond that everyone would run to as the speakers howled, ushering in the next chain of waves.

My personal favorite was their surf simulator Wolf Rider Wipeout. This machine creates the perfect constant wave as you try to ride it. When you gain a little confidence, you try to maneuver different tricks like cutbacks and rolls until you inevitably wipe out.

My nine-year-old son, though, was all about the thrills of the big slides. One was a cool tunnel twisting family tube ride called the River Canyon Run. Another was a tandem tube slide called Alberta Falls that started 4-stories in the air before plummeting you back down into the water. His favorite though and their biggest thrill had to be the fear inducing Howlin’ Tornado. This high-speed clover-shaped raft ride twirled you outside the indoor waterpark, up a massive water wall, before throwing you back inside down another tube. This waterpark, as previously mentioned, caters to everyone on every level, and there is even a large hot tub for the adults.

The Great Wolf Lodge in Williamsburg is simply heaven for children. From all that I’ve mentioned earlier, to even more activities throughout the day. My kids got in their morning yoga routines before breakfast, did some arts and crafts and character meet & greets, and ended each night with a dance party.

Williamsburg, Virginia is filled with historical places and theme parks unlike anywhere else in the country, but know this, their time at the Great Wolf Lodge indelibly created the memories that they will cherish the most.
