Luminosa: An Illuminated Odyssey Through Time and Culture

Published

on

Original, vibrant, and spectacular; Luminosa has raised the bar with an unprecedented journey of lights through creation.

In the heart of Miami of its gorgeous Causeway bridge is the family favorite Jungle Island. This remarkable backdrop is transformed for two months each day as the sun sets over the water. From November 21st to February 28th Jungle Island showcases Luminosa, A Festival of Lights.

This tremendous spectacle is birthed by the astute Zigong Lantern Group and its team of over 150 professional Chinese artisans. They designed over 40 massive and brilliant scenes to walk amongst throughout the park. To create these larger-then-life three-dimensional works of art, the group used over 120 tons of steel, 150,000 feet of silk, 43,600 LED bulbs, and 500,000 feet of LED strips.

Luminosa has different sections in Jungle Island that gives you an illuminated cultural experience as you view various ancient civilizations from our past. Some of them were the Egyptians and their gigantic pyramid, the Mayans and their intricate symbols, Mexico’s Día de Los Muertos with a trail of impressive painted skulls.

Two of my favorite scenes were Luminosa’s depiction of the lost city of Atlantis and an Ancient Chinese Dynasty. Atlantis glowed through the night sky, teeming with life, with its floating underwater creatures. Standing as a centerpiece was a huge Neptune with his stoic trident.

The Ancient Chinese Civilization was simply stunning. The beautiful lite-up kingdom with a line of Terracotta Warriors in front of it. The walkway also took you through a three-dimensional tunnel which was the actual body of an immense dragon. What a sight to be seen!

Other colorfully vivid structures of animals were on display throughout the park. Brilliant pieces that made up a leopard, an alligator, an elephant, parrots, a color-changing chameleon, and so, so many more.

Luminosa, A Festival of Lights also has a good array of food and drinks found at the entrance and throughout the park. Whether you’re into Chinese, Italian, or just want a cocktail and a snack; you can find it there. During your time at Luminosa, there is also live music to help sustain an atmosphere for your senses.

Jungle Island’s Luminosa, A Festival of Lights is unlike anything else you will find or see in Florida. It’s truly something that you must see and experience to understand just how impressive it is. The flawless workmanship that the Zigong Lantern Group has done will leave you astonished.
