The Finnish Goth Rock Legend Delivered an Incredible Show to the Screaming Crowds of South Florida – Photos and Review of the Ville Valo Concert at Revolution Live in Ft. Lauderdale, FL

Droves of fishnet clad fans of goth-rock and metal gathered at Revolution Live in Ft Lauderdale this past Monday to witness Ville Valo perform his first North American solo tour and his first trip state-side since the seminal goth band HIM played their final shows. Venturing to the US in support of his brand new album Neon Noir, which was released to critical acclaim this year, the Finnish goth-metal legend brought out hundreds of fans to witness this meteoric event. The concert was opened by the Icelandic group Kælan Mikla, who set the stage with their hauntingly beautiful vocals and synth-punk beats. I had not heard of the Nordic trio before this show, but the all-female band did an absolutely incredible job of setting the vibe with their sultry old-school synth-goth sound. The absolutely left with some new American fans that night, myself included.

Finally, after a quick wait while the roadies flipped the stage, the crowd’s anticipation reached a fever point and the main event was set to begin. As the neon pink lights dimmed, the audience erupted into cheers as Ville Valo appeared front and center, dressed in his signature black attire. The Finnish singer-songwriter and former frontman of HIM wasted no time in getting the crowd going with his explosive opening number “Echolocate Your Love“. The song was a perfect showcase of Ville’s powerful and emotive voice, which effortlessly soared over the thunderous drums and distorted guitars. The concert was a journey through Ville’s discography, with the setlist including about an even number of brand new solo tracks and HIM classics. The crowd went wild as he played the iconic “Poison Girl” and “Right Here in my Arms“, with many singing along at the top of their lungs.

What was truly striking about the performance was Ville’s stage presence. He exuded a confidence and charisma that kept the audience enraptured from start to finish. He engaged with the crowd, making eye contact and sharing banter, showing that he genuinely appreciated his fans’ support. The concert was a true celebration of Ville Valo’s music, with the crowd cheering and dancing throughout the night. Ville’s performance was powerful, emotional, and unforgettable, leaving everyone wanting more. After playing what is perhaps his most well-known song “Rip Out the Wings of a Butterfly“, the band came back for an incredible encore that left the fans screaming and craving more. As he exited the stage after his encore, the crowd erupted into thunderous applause, marking an end to a fantastic night of music.

Ville Valo’s concert at the Revolution Live in Ft Lauderdale was an unforgettable experience for both HIM fans and lovers of gothic rock and metal. With the support of Kælan Mikla, Ville brought his solo music to life, showing that he still has the same passion and energy that made HIM such an iconic band. The performance was a true testament to Ville’s talent as a musician and a performer, leaving the audience with an unforgettable night of music. Here’s hoping that he comes back to the sunny shores of South Florida sooner rather than later!
