Marlon Wayans Drops the Mic in Coral Springs!!

From Scary Movies to Serious Laughs, Marlon Wayans Brings His Wild Child Ways to Coral Springs.

June 6th, 2025

Comedy chameleon Marlon Wayans is taking the stage by storm—again. With his Wild Child tour rolling into Coral Springs on June 20th, the multi-talented performer isn’t just delivering punchlines. He’s baring soul, swinging curveballs, and reminding audiences that laughter is still one of life’s most powerful healing tools.

“Wild Child is the nickname my mama gave me,” Wayans explains, his tone equal parts playful and heartfelt. “It’s an extension of what I do—I take my pain and go, ‘Here’s what’s funny about it.’ It gets dark, twisted, silly… it’s everything.”

Known for fearlessly scrapping old material after it’s been recorded, Wayans thrives on keeping his comedy sharp and spontaneous. “I like to live on the edge. It’s exciting to not know if something’s gonna sink or swim,” he says. “If it’s too easy, it gets boring.”

That thrill-seeking mentality was on full display in his last special, Good Grief, an emotionally raw performance filmed at Harlem’s legendary Apollo Theater. “My mom performed there as a kid, and my parents grew up in Harlem. It was my way to honor them,” he shares. “Even in grief, I try to find the light—and gift that light to the world.”

As for boundaries? Wayans is unapologetically inclusive in his comedic targets. “Everything’s fair game,” he says without hesitation. “I think you’ve got to be an equal opportunity offender. That’s love. You spread it around.”

That attitude fuels the buzz around the upcoming return of the Scary Movie franchise, with Marlon, brother Shawn, and the iconic Keenen Ivory Wayans back at the helm. “It’s been too long since we’ve had a great comedy in theaters. I just want to make people laugh again.”

Of course, laughter has become a risky business in the age of cancel culture. But Wayans isn’t buying the hype.

“Cancel culture is fake,” he says bluntly. “Social media isn’t real life—it’s people from other countries pushing an agenda. I’m in the clubs, with real people. They want to laugh. I’m bringing comedy back.”

His philosophy? Mockery as flattery. “People actually ask us to parody them. It’s a salute. They want to be recognized.”

Whether he’s delivering gut-busting stand-up, creating iconic parodies, or diving into serious drama, Wayans has mastered the balancing act. He won an NAACP Image Award for his role as Lou in Bel-Air, in a scene opposite Jabari Banks (Will) that hit fans right in the feels.

“It’s all about finding the truth of the character,” Wayans explains. “Lou and I are nothing alike—I’ve always been present in my kids’ lives. But I imagined what it’d be like if I hadn’t been. That’s where the emotion came from.”

Wayans will return to Bel-Air for more of Lou’s redemption arc in the upcoming season. “There’s healing, but life’s messy. There are still complications,” he teases. “It’s the next chapter.”

And if that weren’t enough, this September he’s diving into new territory: psychological horror. Partnering with Jordan Peele’s production company, Wayans plays a retiring football star with a dark side. “It’s a mind trip,” he says. “A thriller set in the world of football, and I get to be the villain. It’s older, darker, crazier.”

To prep for the role, he didn’t just hit the gym—he hit the books. “I read Tim Grover’s Relentless to understand the mindset of the GOATs—Jordan, Kobe. I had to find that drive mentally, spiritually. Physically, I’m 53. I can’t do it all.”

While fans may remember him from his role in The Sixth Man, Wayans assures us this one’s a different beast.

In the midst of all the hustle, he recently shared the spotlight with his family, as the Waynes were inducted into the NAACP Image Awards Hall of Fame. “We don’t usually stop to smell the roses,” he admits. “It was good to take a moment… then we said, ‘What’s next?’”

Despite the accolades, holiday reunions aren’t writers’ room battles. “We’re not desperate like that,” he says with a laugh. “We’re just older now. It’s about love, not work. No rivalries—best joke wins, always.”

That balance of heart and humor? It’s no act.

“Life gives you curveballs. All you can do is swing and hope you connect,” Wayans reflects. “As long as I’m breathing, I’ll keep growing—as an artist, and as a human.”

Catch Marlon Wayans live at the Coral Springs Center for the Arts as the Wild Child tour brings its trademark mix of hilarity, heart, and fearless truth to South Florida. Bring your laughs—and maybe stretch first. It’s about to get wild.
