Discover the Magic of Rock City
Nature’s finest creating indelible moments for all ages, Look Out! Rock City is loaded with beauty and fun.
January 2nd, 2025
Perched high above Chattanooga, on the top of Lookout Mountain, is one of the most epic, original, and talked about, places in the Southeast. This place is more adventurous for kids than most theme parks. Rock City is so uniquely pleasing, that every time I hear of people vacationing with their families in Northern Georgia and Tennessee, it’s the first place I tell them that’s a must stop and see.
You can literally create the most memorable day ever by starting with the world’s greatest pancakes at Aretha Frankenstein’s for breakfast, then spending the day at Rock City with a stop at Point Park and an afternoon tour of Ruby Falls.
So, what makes Rock City so legendary to speak of? Let’s start with the obvious; it’s on top of Lookout Mountain! That means you get the most epic views no matter where you go in Rock City. One highlight there is at Lovers Leap where you can see seven different states at once. The view is second to none and framed with the stunning waterfall, High Falls.
Before getting to the most incredible views, if you’re brave enough, you can venture over a huge, suspended bridge to get there. Of course, it’s safe and sturdy, but it most definitely gets your adrenaline going.
At Rock City, although hard to believe, the views inside the mountain are almost as amazing as the ones outside. Living in flat South Florida, I love going to Utah and Arizona to explore one of my favorite natural formations, slot canyons. Rock City has two really impressive, short slot canyons that you and family will love, Needle’s Eye and the infamous Fat Man’s Squeeze.
Another two features that really makes this place unforgettable to children is the wonderfully carved and colorful Hall of the Mountain King, where my kids loved sitting on his throne and of course, the Fairyland Caverns. This place is any child’s dream where all of their favorite nursery rhymes come to life.
Rock City is a place that I like to call Eye Candy for the Soul and one that they’ve made sure that children will stay entertained and never forget this place. Other enjoyable elements here are the homemade fudge, gem mining, standalone rock formations like Mushroom Rock and Balanced Rock, Cave of the Winds, and did I say homemade fudge?
