The Fast-Rising Modern Heroes of Jam Bring Two Nights of Epic Tunes To The Shores Of Miami – Photos and Review of the Goose Concerts at the Fillmore Miami in Miami Beach, FL

Over the past couple of days, Goose delivered an incredible, intimate two-night jam odyssey that captivated the eager fans of South Florida as they stopped by the Fillmore in Miami Beach on their 2024 fall tour. The celebrated Connecticut-based indie jam band is known for their rich, exploratory soundscapes that blend elements of rock, funk, folk, and jazz, similar in style to other jam bands like Phish and Umphrey’s McGee. Formed in 2014, the band quickly gained a loyal following during the 2020 pandemic thanks to a series livestreams that showcased their improvisational style, intricate musicianship, and engaging performances. With no opening act, the stage was set for “An Evening with Goose”, giving fans a full immersion into the band’s improvisational prowess, musical diversity, and commitment to creating unique experiences each night, including an amazing light show with lasers galore.

The first night featured a powerful blend of deep grooves, spirited improvisations, and a few fan favorites. Opening with a dynamic rendition of “The Whales”, Goose set the tone with sprawling jams and cascading rhythms that pulled the audience into their world. The set was both a journey through familiar melodies and a showcase of their ever-expanding repertoire, with fan favorites like “Into the Myst” and “Borne” building an energy that echoed throughout the historic theater. Playing two complete 75 minute sets, Goose showcased why they have become one of the most exciting acts in the modern jam band scene, captivating audiences with unique setlists, lengthy jams, and a constantly evolving sound that makes every show a fresh experience.

The standout of the night was the band’s extended jam on “Everything Must Go”, a fan-favorite that evolved from a slow, haunting intro into an explosive crescendo. Layered guitar harmonies and meticulous drumming marked the piece as one of the evening’s highlights. Goose seemed intent on pulling out all the stops, creating a space where the energy and sound felt boundless, blending genres from funk to folk, to experimental rock. Finishing off their first night with an incredible encore of Marvin Gayes’ “Baby Don’t You Do It“, the band left the crowd hungry for more even after over three hours of music.

On the second night, Goose offered a fresh experience with a brand-new setlist, diving into deeper cuts and giving Miami something entirely unique, a welcome treat to the many fans attending both nights. Starting off with “Earthling or Alien?”, the band set a high bar, immediately diving into the exploratory spirit that has become their hallmark. Every note felt deliberate yet free, and every jam was filled with intricate musical conversations between members. Highlights from the second night included “Mr Action”, “So Ready” and a slow, melodic version of “All I Need“, where Goose took fans on an expansive journey throughout their catalogue, with each member exploring their instruments to the fullest as the songs stretched into 10+ minute jams. “Jive Lee”, the climactic piece of the night, saw the audience reach new levels of energy, as the band pushed the tempo with relentless beats, jazz-inspired solos, and soaring vocal harmonies during their final encore.

The two-night stint was a testament to Goose’s ability to make each show a singular, incredibly unique experience. By playing without an opening act, the band created a deeper connection with the audience, drawing them further into the musical journey. Fans who attended both nights were rewarded with an ever-evolving musical narrative, as each night complemented the other in rhythm and exploration while never repeating the same tunes twice. Goose’s Fillmore Miami run offered a vibrant display of the band’s growth, delivering a memorable pre-Halloween jam-band experience for Miami fans and solidifying their reputation as one of the most electrifying live bands today.
