Sum 41: The Final Tour
The Pop-Punk Heroes Take Their Final Bow and Celebrate Life and Death with a New Album and a Farewell Tour – Photos and Review of the Sum 41 Concert at the Fillmore Miami in Miami Beach, FL
This Monday marked a bittersweet moment for South Florida’s pop-punk fans as Sum 41’s highly anticipated farewell “Tour of the Setting Sum” made its way to Miami Beach. The band’s final tour stopped by the Fillmore Miami Beach, a venue well-known for hosting unforgettable intimate performances, and this show was no exception. The air in the venue was filled with a mixture of excitement, nostalgia and melancholy, as this tour represents the last chapter for the Canadian punk rock icons who have announced their retirement after more than two decades of defining an era.
The evening opened with Many Eyes, a metal-tinged hardcore punk project led by ex-Every Time I Die singer and songwriter Kieth Buckley. The band’s set was a delicious appetizer before the main event, mixing crushing riffs with introspective lyrics that prepared the crowd for the energy to come. Showing off songs from their brand new album “The Light Age“, Many Eyes blasted through an explosive setlist full of moshable jams. While still a relatively young band, Kieth’s emotional lyrics and the rest of the band’s tight musical performance showed why they’re a band to watch in the coming years.
Next up was The Interrupters, whose unique ska-punk fusion injected a jolt of electric energy into the room. The band’s charismatic lead vocalist Aimee Interrupter led the charge as they stormed onto the stage, bringing their trademark infectious enthusiasm with them, and their bouncy rhythms turned the Fillmore into a punk-fueled dance party as they kicked things off with “Gave You Everything“. Feel-good hits like “By My Side” and “On A Turntable” had the audience singing along to every word, amplifying the already buzzing energy in the venue. The Interrupters’ vibrant stage presence was a perfect contrast to the emotionally charged evening, celebrating the spirit of punk with relentless positivity as they finished up their time on stage with “She’s Kerosene“.
When Sum 41 finally took the stage, the crowd erupted, and the moment was heavy with the realization that this would be one of the band’s last performances in Florida. Opening up with “Motivation” and “The Hell Song“, the band wasted no time diving into their set, which was packed with hits spanning their entire career as well as songs from their brand new double album “Heaven & Hell“. Sum 41 instantly transported the crowd back to the early 2000s, when pop-punk was in its heyday, and in between songs frontman Deryck Whibley addressed the audience with gratitude, reflecting on the band’s journey since forming in 1996 and regaling us with tales about his life. He expressed heartfelt thanks to the fans who have supported them through the highs and lows of their career, making the “Tour of the Setting Sum” not just a farewell, but a celebration of their legacy.
From anthems like “Fat Lip” and “Still Waiting” to newer tracks such as “Dopamine” Sum 41 expertly balanced nostalgia with their evolved sound, showing they still had every bit of the fire that made them a global sensation, and the energy in the room surged as fans moshed and sang along to every word. The band’s final Miami set concluded with the explosive encore of “Summer“, “Waiting on a Twist of Fate” and “In Too Deep“, leaving everyone in the crowd feeling the cathartic weight of the moment. Sum 41 exited the stage, leaving behind a legacy of unforgettable anthems and a generation of fans who grew up with their music. As the lights dimmed and the crowd dispersed, ears still ringing, there was a collective sense of gratitude—a fitting farewell to a band that defined an era of punk rock and left an incredible mark on music history. Sum 41 may be retiring, but their influence will continue to live on, as the “Tour of the Setting Sum” reminds us that the sun will never truly set on their music.
