Better Lovers are “Highly Irresponsible” With Their Latest Release

The All-Star Post-Hardcore Supergroup Drop Their Mind-Blowing Debut Album – Review of the New Better Lovers Album “Highly Irresponsible“, Out October 25th
The long-awaited first full-length album from Better Lovers is finally here, and “Highly Irresponsible” is the definition of the phrase “Great Things Take Time”. While the band has been teasing us with singles here and there (along with last year’s excellent EP “God Made Me an Animal“), this is our first taste of Better Lovers as they’re fully dialed in, and I could not be more impressed with their debut. Starting with the haunting opening notes of “Lie Between The Lines“, the album blasts off like a rocket and doesn’t stop until 10 songs worth of slamming hardcore are shotgunned directly into your brain.
Featuring ex-Every Time I Die members Jordan Buckley on guitar, “Goose” Holyoak on drums and Stephen Micciche on bass, along with ex-Dillinger Escape Plan singer Greg Puciato and Fit for an Autopsy’s Will Putney on guitar along with handling the production, Better Lovers is very much more than the sum of its parts. Will’s tight production helps keep the songs crunchy, tight, and compact, without veering off into the experimental territory Dillinger Escape Plan often wandered into. Meanwhile, Greg’s searing, screeching vocals pack more anger and energy into every song than even the rowdiest Every Time I Die track, and it seems like the rest of the band saved their best riffs for this record.
Speaking of best riffs, Jordan’s guitar work on this album (and especially tracks like “Future Myopia” and “A White Horse Covered In Blood“) may be some of his best yet, keeping the hype going all the way to the end. While the majority of “Highly Irresponsible” features screams, Greg’s etherial clean vocals can still be heard on songs like “Deliver Us From Life” and “At All Times” bringing some variety to the songs. This entire record is a non-stop whirlwind, and you owe it to yourself not to miss this. Pre-order the new album along with a variety of different vinyl variants and tour merch here! And make sure to catch Better Lovers live on their upcoming headlining tour, which will be stopping by Tampa at the Orpheum on November 5th and Orlando at the Abbey on November 6th. Make sure to check out all their tour dates and pick up tickets here!
