Jules Liesl: Breaking Boundaries in Pop Music

Unapologetically Authentic, Jules Liesl on Overcoming Industry Struggles, Finding Confidence, and Carving Out Her Own Lane in Pop Music.
August 16th, 2024
Jules Liesl is taking the pop world by storm, blending the energy of iconic figures like Britney Spears with her own unique flair. Described by many as having a “Britney Spears 2.0” vibe, Jules stands out not just as a tribute to the pop icons of the past but as an emerging force with her own bold style. “Being wild, weird, outrageous, and crazy is definitely something I like for my personal style, sound, and performance, and I think Britney did that with herself. Being outside the box to me is pop music! Just being different and being yourself!” she explains.
Her performances have been nothing short of electrifying. Jules recalls one of her most memorable shows, her very first at The Viper Room. In a space meant to hold far fewer people, Jules managed to pack the room with over 70 fans, creating an energy that was unforgettable. “People were standing on tables and chairs, and there was a line outside the door to see. It was iconic! I was also barefoot that night, which was super funny,” she reminisces, highlighting the spontaneous, carefree nature that defines her approach to live performances.
For Jules, connecting with her audience is paramount. “I know my audience loves to dance and have a good time, so I try to bring as much fun into my music as possible,” she says. But beyond just having fun, she’s committed to creating music that resonates with a wide range of people. By blending different genres, sounds, and stories, Jules ensures her music is accessible to all. “I want my music to be for everyone,” she adds.
The road to success hasn’t been easy, and Jules’ journey is filled with personal struggles, particularly with the pressures of the modeling industry and battles with self-image. However, instead of letting these challenges define her, she turned them into music. “My music is my way of expressing myself, and I hope showing that I can express myself and be honest helps the listeners to be confident and know that they can also express themselves with no judgment.”
Her style extends beyond her music to her appearance. Jules’ iconic stage outfits are a key part of her persona, carefully designed to be both functional and bold. “I usually love something cozy so I can dance and move, but I also enjoy something hot that gives me confidence and a bit of attitude,” she says, adding that she likes to take on different characters through her fashion choices. “I hope others will feel the same confidence within themselves.”
As she continues to rise, Jules has been preparing for bigger stages, including festivals like the Rising Japan Music Fest. Her preparation includes working out, eating right, rehearsing, and focusing on getting as much rest as possible to ensure she’s ready to deliver her best.
Jules’ career has been carefully nurtured by her manager, Greg Centineo, who recognized her potential from the beginning. “In the beginning, it was literally the intangible qualities in Jules that convinced me she had something special,” he says. Over the years, Greg helped Jules navigate the distractions that held her back, guiding her to find her authentic voice. “It took a few years for her to find herself, to discover her uniqueness and her value. Today, Jules has become the best version of herself with the power to create, lead, and define the future of the music landscape.”
The duo has faced their share of challenges, but their dedication to Jules’ growth as an artist has never wavered. Greg recalls a pivotal moment early in Jules’ career when things almost fell apart. “There was a Sunday afternoon conference call with Jules, her parents, and our creative director at the time. Jules had a Mount Vesuvius volcanic eruption, with a Pompeii-like meltdown,” Greg says, laughing. It was a make-or-break moment, but instead of walking away, Greg realized he needed to prioritize Jules as a person first. This shift in focus marked a turning point in their working relationship, one that allowed Jules to grow both personally and professionally.
As for what’s next, Jules is gearing up for an exciting future, with plans for a Las Vegas residency beginning in Fall 2024 and a library of new music ready to be shared. Having spent months collaborating with some of the top producers and writers in the industry, Jules is poised to release a collection of music that promises to captivate audiences everywhere. With a carefully planned release strategy and new team members based in Nashville, the stage is set for Jules to make a lasting mark on the music world.
