Masvidal’s Journey: From UFC Fan to Launching Gamebred Bare Knuckle MMA.

April 28th, 2023

Jorge “Gamebred” Masvidal, a former UFC fighter and owner of Gamebred Bare Knuckle MMA, graced the vibrant atmosphere of Battle Court Jai-Alai, captivating the audience with his undeniable passion for sports outside of his own. In a recent interview, Masvidal’s perfectly encapsulated the essence of his journey and the captivating allure of his promotion.

“When I’m fighting there’s just like a switch I turn on that’s just like BOOM! and I’m ready to go,” Masvidal expressed when reflecting on the difference between professional Jai-Alai athletes and those in the UFC. He seemed to enjoy the fact that the athletes simply showcased their skills and didn’t have to create some elaborate persona and delve into hype-building tactics.

However, “Gamebred” acknowledged the post-fight dynamics, “There’s a lot of love between the fighters, especially when the fight comes to its end, but there’s also a lot of m@tr@f!kers that if I saw right now…allegedly, I would punch in the face.” Such raw authenticity highlights the intensity of competition while affirming the underlying respect shared among fighters, both inside and outside the ring.

Embodying the 305, the spirit of Miami, Masvidal’s connection with the audience was palpable, “Oh yeah, not just Miami, Florida, but worldwide I’m getting messages with nothing but love. I can’t complain man. I love where I’m at,” he shared. The overwhelming support from fans served as a testament to his impact as an athlete, transcending geographical boundaries.

The conversation seamlessly transitioned to the inception of Gamebred Bare Knuckle MMA, Masvidal’s venture rooted in his humble beginnings. “I started in Miami with no gloves in Kimbo Slice’s backyard,” he recalled. The desire to give back and create opportunities for aspiring fighters resonated deeply with Masvidal, as he aimed to provide a platform for others to showcase their skills. The allure of bare-knuckle fighting, which had catapulted his own career, captivated fans and unleashed their enthusiasm.

Reflecting on his journey, Masvidal marveled, “I was just another fighter, another slave in the Roman gladiator circus. I never thought I’d end up owning the circus, it’s fucking amazing man. God works in mysterious ways.”

As an ardent fan of the UFC, Masvidal’s admiration for the sport was undeniable. “The only thing I’ve been a fan of my whole life is the UFC,” he confessed. His encyclopedic knowledge of fighters’ histories, birthdays and favorite submissions reflected his deep-rooted passion for the sport and the fighters who inspired him.

Delving into the draw of bare-knuckle fighting, Masvidal explained, “No gloves mean more finishes, more submissions, more knockouts, more stoppages by cuts, because there’s considerable more damage. The shots are more precise.” His words unveiled the heightened intensity and potential for captivating outcomes, appealing to fight fans seeking an unfiltered and exhilarating experience.
