South Florida Reaches Greater Heights With All Time Low

All Time Low and Friends Deliver the Soundtrack of a Generation to Elder Emo’s Across South Florida – Photos and Review of the All Time Low Concert at the War Memorial Auditorium in Ft Lauderdale, FL

A sea of band t-shirts and jet black hair poured into the historic Fort Lauderdale War Memorial Auditorium last night, dressed to the nines as they shivered with anticipation. The occasion was a potent dose of pop-punk and emo nostalgia headlined by All Time Low, a band that has soundtracked the formative years of a generation and continues to command a fervent following of fans. The bill was a veritable feast for anyone who came of age with Warped Tour compilations and skinny jeans, featuring direct support from Mayday Parade, the melodic hardcore of Four Year Strong, and fresh-faced openers The Paradox.

Kicking off the evening’s proceedings was The Paradox, a fast-rising band tasked with the challenging duty of warming up an early-arriving crowd. Hailing from Atlanta, they embraced the opportunity with a raw and energetic set. Their sound, a blend of driving pop-punk mixed with ska influences, served as a fitting warm-up for the rest of the night. While perhaps less familiar to some in the audience, their earnest performance and anthemic choruses successfully cut through the cavernous hall, earning respectful cheers and setting a positive, high-energy tone. They proved to be a capable and enthusiastic opening act, priming the audience for the escalating intensity to come, and I can see great things for them in the future coming from their viral rise to fame.

Without missing a beat, the energy in the room was joyfully cranked to eleven as Four Year Strong took the stage, and the Amherst quintet unleashed a sonic assault of relentless, moshing riffs and gang vocals that immediately ignited the floor. From the opening chords, a swirling pit erupted as the band tore through a career-spanning setlist packed with brutal honesty and breakdowns. Tracks like the iconic “It Must Really Suck to Be Four Year Strong Right Now” and “Get Out of My Head” became massive, collective shout-alongs, and their new song “WHIPLASH” is a certified banger. Their signature blend of pop-punk catchiness and hardcore aggression was a masterclass in controlled chaos, their dual-guitar attack providing a thick, pummeling wall of sound that left the audience breathless and beaming.

As the stage was reset, a different, more melancholic atmosphere began to descend. The lights dimmed to a deep blue, and Mayday Parade walked on to a roar of recognition that signaled they were far more than just a supporting act. From the first notes of “Under My Sweater“, a wave of sincere emotion swept through the auditorium as longtime fans burst into tears. Frontman Derek Sanders, with his unmistakable vocal timbre, led the audience through a beautifully somber journey into the heart of mid-2000s emo. The set was a powerful punch of feeling, heavily featuring their seminal album “A Lesson in Romantics”. The crowd transformed into a massive choir, singing every word of “Jersey” and “Jamie All Over” with a cathartic passion, proving that some anthems of heartbreak only grow more resonant with time.

Finally, it was time for the main event. As the intro music swelled, All Time Low burst onto the stage with the confident swagger of a band completely at home in the spotlight. Launching immediately into songs from their brand new album “Everyone’s Talking“, they established a direct and electric connection with the crowd that never faltered. The setlist was a perfectly curated mix of beloved classics like “Damned If I Do” and “Weightless” alongside strong newer material from their most recent albums, demonstrating their impressive career longevity. Frontman Alex Gaskarth was a charismatic ringmaster, his banter witty and engaging, while guitarist Jack Barakat prowled the stage, relentlessly hyping the audience. The production was slick, the pacing was breakneck, and the communal joy was undeniable. During massive singalongs like “Monsters” and an impromptu performance of “Remembering Sunday“, the line between band and audience blurred completely, creating a unified, celebratory experience. The night culminated in a final, deafening chorus of “Dear Maria, Count Me In“, a fitting end to a concert that was more than just a series of performances. It was a vibrant, sweaty, and deeply satisfying homecoming for a scene that, as last night powerfully proved, is alive and well.
