The Shoegaze Masterminds Deliver an Epic Display of Musical Emotion – Review and Photos of the DIIV Concert at the Revolution Live in Ft Lauderdale, FL

Dreamy shoegaze legends DIIV stopped by Ft Lauderdale this past weekend as part of the “Road to III Points” tour that the festival puts on every year, showcasing unique and up-and-coming acts ahead of the fall festival. The show was originally scheduled to take place in Miami, but due to the construction at the original venue they were able to move it to the Revolution Live, allowing not only for a more intimate concert but also for a bigger audience. Warming up the crowd were up-and-coming indie bands Dutch Interior and Horse Jumper of Love with tunes that set the tone for an unforgettable evening.

The night began with Dutch Interior, an up-and-coming band that has been making waves in the indie circuit. Their set was a blend of dreamy melodies and profound lyrics, captivating the early crowd. The ethereal quality of their music was perfectly suited for the intimate atmosphere of Revolution Live, and they quickly won over the audience with their heartfelt performance. I had never heard of the band before this, but they reminded me of Modest Mouse with a folksy twist.

Following Dutch Interior, Horse Jumper of Love took the stage. Known for their slowcore sound, the band created a contemplative ambiance with their deep, introspective tracks. Their performance was a study in contrasts – soft, almost whispered vocals juxtaposed with powerful, resonant guitar work. The audience was visibly moved, swaying gently to the melancholic rhythms that filled the venue.

As the lights dimmed and the intro video began to play on the giant LED screen in the back, the stage was set for the headliner. DIIV, the Brooklyn-based indie band known for their immersive soundscapes and energetic live shows, did not disappoint. Opening with the hypnotic “In Amber” the band immediately established a connection with the crowd, who responded with enthusiastic cheers. Lead singer/guitarist Zachary Cole Smith’s distinctive voice cutting through the swirling guitars and driving rhythms, and the rest of the band did an incredible creating danceable dreamy soundscapes.

The band’s setlist was a well-curated mix of tracks from their albums, but mainly showcased their latest effort “Frog in Boiling Water“, which came out in May of this year. The show also included some fan favorites like “Under the Sun” and “Take Your Time“, and each song flowed seamlessly into the next, creating a continuous wave of sound that washed over the audience. The band’s synergy was on full display, with each member contributing to the rich, layered sound that DIIV is known for.

As the night drew to a close with an encore of “Raining on Your Pillow” and “Horsehead“,  it was clear that DIIV were modern masters of their craft. The band’s ability to blend intense, driving rhythms with ethereal melodies created a unique and captivating sound. Dutch Interior and Horse Jumper of Love were the perfect openers, each bringing their own distinct style and setting the stage for DIIV’s mesmerizing performance. I cant wait to see what the band comes up with next!
