The Worlds Most Famous Cover Band Delivers A Barrage of Punk Flavored Hits to South Florida – Review and Photos of the Me First and the Gimme Gimmes Concert at the Revolution Live in Ft Lauderdale, FL

Revolution Live transformed into a haven for punk rock enthusiasts this past Sunday as Me First and the Gimme Gimmes took the stage for an electrifying performance. The ska-punk supergroup always brings the party with them wherever they go, and this night was no exception as they dropped by South Florida on the last stop of their “Let Us Play Your Party” tour (conveniently occurring on Cinco De Mayo). The evening kicked off with two dynamic new supergroups as opening acts, Ultra Bomb and The Defiant, setting the stage for an unforgettable night of music.

UltraBomb was the first band to kick off the party, and they burst onto the scene with an explosive energy that immediately captivated the audience. Featuring Greg Norton of Hüsker Dü fame on the bass guitar and rounded out by Jamie Oliver on the drums and singer/guitarist Finny McConnell, their raw unapologetic sound showcased their talent and got the crowd dancing in a circle pit the entire set. UltraBomb’s set consisted mainly of songs from their debut album “Time to Burn“, and the band had great stage presence, interacting with the crowd and making the fans feel like they’ve known the band forever. The singer even got down into the crowd and let a young fan play his guitar, much to the delight of his parents.

Following UltraBomb’s energetic set, The Defiant took the stage and continued to fuel the crowd’s excitement. The punk rock supergroup consists of Dicky Barrett from the Mighty Mighty Bosstones handling the vocals, The Offspring drummer Pete Parada, Greg Camp from SmashMouth & Johnny Rioux of the Street Dogs on guitars, and The Briggs bassist Joey La Rocca. The band’s blend of infections punk rock anthems and catchy melodies had the audience jumping and moshing in no time, and even though the band mainly played tracks from their brand new album “If We’re Really Being Honest” the crowd was jamming along to the songs like they’ve been listening to them their whole lives. The Defiant’s infectious energy and stage presence set the tone for the main event, leaving the audience buzzing with anticipation.

As the lights dimmed once again and the crowd roared with excitement, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes took the stage, unleashing a whirlwind of ska-punk versions of infectious covers. With each song, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes delivered an electrifying performance that paid homage to their punk rock roots while infusing the biggest musical hits throughout the years with their unique style and humor. From their show-opening high-octane rendition of “Jolene” to their crowd-pleasing cover of “Love Will Keep Us Together“, every moment was filled with pure adrenaline, infectious energy and witty banter that kept the audience on their feet throughout the entire performance. CJ Ramone of Ramones fame was also playing bass guitar for the band, which was a cool treat for old school punk rock fans like me.

Whether you are a longtime fan or new to their unique take on popular music, Me First and the Gimme Gimmes’ performance was a killer that party that was not to be missed! With stellar performances from UltraBomb and The Defiant setting the stage, followed by an unforgettable performance by the headliners themselves, it was a celebration of ska and punk rock at its finest. If you ever have the chance to catch Me First and the Gimme Gimmes live in concert, don’t hesitate to seize the opportunity – you won’t be disappointed!
