Joust Do It, The Sarasota Medieval Fair Delivers Knightly Fun, Enchanting Performances, Medieval Feasts, Unique Activities, and Timeless Family Memories in a Magical, Community-Filled Setting.

November 30th, 2024

The Sarasota Medieval Fair, now celebrating its 20th year, invites visitors of all ages to immerse themselves in the vibrant, lively world of medieval times. Held on a permanent 47-acre site, the Faire distinguishes itself with permanent structures like pubs, a chessboard arena, and an inviting front gate. These features create a welcoming and familiar atmosphere for returning guests while introducing new surprises every year. Thousands of attendees come each day, many dressed as knights, nobles, or fantasy characters, adding to the festive ambiance.

The Faire is brimming with activities for guests to enjoy. Visitors can try their hand at archery, axe throwing, and star tossing, or explore the Children’s Realm, where little ones can meet St. Nicholas or even hold small pigs. For animal lovers, the Faire offers opportunities to ride llamas and marvel at a variety of entertainment acts. Celtic and Greek music, pyro displays, acrobatics, whips, sword swallowing, and comedic performances captivate audiences of all ages, creating an atmosphere of wonder and delight. The artistry doesn’t stop there—guests can also watch skilled steelworkers or browse through numerous unique vendors offering festival-perfect wares.

Food and drink are just as diverse, with an array of medieval-inspired options such as turkey legs, fish, and vegetarian dishes. Guests can enjoy twice-daily pub crawls through the Fair’s three permanent pubs, a spirited way to explore the grounds and soak in the revelry.

Signature events like the joust and the live-action chess match remain highlights of the experience. The joust showcases knights on horseback clashing in thrilling tests of skill and bravery, while the chess match pits historical figures against one another in theatrical displays of strategy and combat. These spectacles are complemented by a rotating lineup of performers from across the country, ensuring a dynamic and fresh experience with every visit.

The Sarasota Medieval Fair stands out for its ability to transport visitors to another era, offering a break from the everyday and a chance to step into a world of magic and camaraderie. Artistic director Rod McInnis described the Faire as a place where guests can leave their worries behind and immerse themselves in the wonderment of the medieval atmosphere. Whether testing their skills, enjoying the lively performances, or simply soaking up the community spirit, attendees of all ages are sure to find something to love.

For a one-of-a-kind adventure filled with history, fantasy, and entertainment, the Sarasota Medieval Faire is not to be missed. Learn more and plan your visit at Sarasota Medieval Fair.
