Korn and Gojira Deliver a Crushing Performance to Palm Beach

Korn, Gojira and Spiritbox Bring the Heaviest Tour of the Year to South Florida – Photos and Review of the Korn concert at the iThink Financial Amphitheater in West Palm Beach, FL
A humid Florida forecast couldn’t stop heavy metal fans from selling out the iThink Financial Amphitheater in West Palm Beach this weekend as they waited for a chance to see the one and only Korn take the stage. Whether they were new fans at their first Korn concert or people my age reliving their childhood (and bringing their kids to their first metal show), the crowd was treated to a hard-hitting journey through their iconic nu-metal catalog that left everyone in awe. Backed up by an incredible lineup of French metal heavyweights Gojira and the fast-rising Canadian metalcore group Spiritbox, the show was something heavy metal fans from all over South Florida couldn’t afford to miss.
The night kicked off with Spiritbox, who has rapidly gained a reputation for blending atmospheric melodies with crushing riffs. Their set was an explosive introduction to the evening, with vocalist Courtney LaPlante commanding the stage with her powerful range. Her ability to shift between hauntingly beautiful clean vocals and guttural screams set the tone for the intensity that would follow, and the rest of the band delivered crushing jams to back her up. Songs like “Jaded” and “Angel Eyes” showcased their newest EP “The Fear of Fear” and sent waves of energy through the crowd, giving Spiritbox a chance to solidify their status as one of metal’s most exciting newcomers. They finished up their time with “Holy Roller” and “Circle With Me” (which are perhaps their most well-known songs) before departing the stage to massive applause. Spiritbox is destined for great things and I can’t wait to see where this band’s trajectory goes next!
Following Spiritbox’s spirited performance Gojira took over the stage, turning up both the volume and the intensity as they broke into “L’enfant Sauvage” and sending the audience into a frenzy with their unique blend of technical precision and raw power. Known for their progressive metal sound, Gojira’s set was a masterclass in musicianship. Joe Duplantier’s growling vocals and intricate guitar work, alongside his brother Mario Duplantier’s relentless drumming, created an atmosphere of controlled chaos as flames and fog erupted all around like a volcano. The band’s heavy yet melodic soundscapes on songs like “Stranded” and “Flying Whales” captivated the audience, with mosh pits forming all over the lawn and headbanging aplenty as fans had the time of their lives. Gojira’s performance was an explosive sonic assault, and they were met with roaring approval as they wrapped up their set with “Mea Culpa” (the song they played at the Olympics that propelled them to worldwide fame) and “Amazonia“.
As the house lights dimmed for the final time and the crowd erupted, intro music began to play and lights flashed behind the giant curtain in front of the stage. As the curtain dropped and Korn kicked things off with “Here to Stay“, the band immediately ignited a wave of nostalgia and adrenaline from their screaming fans. Jonathan Davis’ signature guttural vocals cut through the night, and the energy from the stage was electric. The band, which has been a cornerstone of the nu-metal scene for decades, seemed as energized and passionate as ever. Korn delivered a mix of fan favorites and deeper cuts, from the angsty “Dead Bodies Everywhere” to the eerie “Hey Daddy“, which hasn’t been played live since 1999.
The show was a celebration of the band’s more than 30 year career, and a majority of the songs came from their first 4 (and most well-known) albums, including “Shoots and Ladders”, where Davis brought out his famous bagpipes. Guitarists James “Munky” Shaffer and Brian “Head” Welch shredded through heavy riffs, while bassist Ra Diaz and drummer Ray Luzier locked down a thunderous rhythm section that kept the crowd moving all night. When Korn began the opening riff to “Blind” (the first single that launched them into metal superstardorm), the crowd erupted with synchronized headbanging, and Davis’ raw intensity had the entire amphitheater echoing the song’s famous opening line, “Are you ready?”
Throughout the night, Korn showcased their ability to connect with fans on a visceral level. Whether through their aggressive energy or their willingness to bare their souls through music, the band proved why they remain titans in the world of heavy music. The emotional peak of the show came with the band’s encore performance, which featured their most famous singles “Falling Away From Me” and ” Freak on a Leash“. As the show came to a close, it was clear that Korn’s reign as one of the most influential bands in metal is far from over. The West Palm Beach crowd left the amphitheater buzzing, having witnessed an unforgettable night of live music from three of the genre’s best. From Spiritbox’s captivating opening set to Gojira’s crushing metal power and Korn’s relentless performance, the night was something fans will remember for a long time to come.
