Something’s Brewing in Deerfield Beach
A Latte to Love, Pilar Coffee Bar and Iced Treats Elevates the Coffee Experience.
January 20th, 2025
Pilar Coffee Bar and Iced Treats is brewing more than just coffee—it’s crafting an experience. With its commitment to high-quality beans, mouthwatering pastries, and an ambiance that effortlessly blends creativity, connection, and relaxation, Pilar is quickly becoming a go-to haven for coffee enthusiasts and food lovers alike.
This innovative café is the brainchild of Nicholas Oppel and Max Gonzalez, two visionaries who saw an opportunity to revolutionize the local coffee scene. With Nicholas serving as Corporate Procurement Manager and Max as Director of Operations, the dynamic duo has infused their passion for quality and hospitality into every sip, bite, and detail of the space.
“The coffee industry is booming, and we wanted to create something unique that truly captures the spirit of Boca and Deerfield Beach,” says Max. “From the moment you step inside, we want you to feel the difference—our attention to quality, our warm and inviting space, and the dedication we put into every single drink and dish. The response has been incredible.”
Pilar takes pride in sourcing single-origin coffee from Colombia and Brazil, ensuring that each cup is packed with rich, refined flavors that set it apart. Grown at high altitudes, these premium beans deliver a smooth yet complex taste, delighting even the most discerning coffee aficionados.

The cafe’s menu is a masterpiece of bold flavors and innovative pairings. From specialty lattes and cold brews to teas and gourmet dishes, there’s something for every palate. Standout creations like the Toasted Marshmallow Latte, the Biscotti Butter Cookie Latte and the Ancient Grains Salad Bowl showcase the café’s dedication to both indulgence and nutrition. The menu is thoughtfully designed to accommodate a variety of diets, ensuring that everyone can find something to enjoy—whether you’re vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, or simply looking for a flavorful, hearty meal.

But the commitment to excellence goes well beyond just the coffees and salads. Unlike many cafés that rely on pre-packaged or frozen ingredients, Pilar is all about freshness. Every pastry, every dish, and every beverage is crafted from scratch using locally sourced ingredients.
“Nothing sits in the freezer for days,” Max emphasizes. “We believe in serving real food, made fresh, every single day. That’s what makes us stand out.”
Pilar’s menu is a masterpiece of bold flavors and innovative pairings, with dishes that are nothing short of a culinary journey. For those craving a savory kick, the Delicious Angry Chicken sandwich brings a symphony of crispy chicken tenders, a luscious hot honey glaze, creamy fontina cheese, zesty pickled onions and a dash of house relish.

But, if you’re feeling adventurous, don’t miss the Prosciutto & Roasted Peppers Flatbread drizzled with shakshuka sauce and topped with fresh mozzarella, balsamic drizzle, and chives for that perfect balance of savory and tangy.

For a sweet and savory combo, the Sweet & Savory Tenders and Waffles delivers an indulgent plate of crispy chicken tenders paired with fluffy waffles, drizzled with honey bacon and powdered sugar. Choose from the trio of syrups—hot honey, honey, or maple syrup—for that finishing touch that takes it over the top.

Guests can also bring the Pilar experience home with them, with whole bean and ground coffee available for purchase alongside chic Pilar-branded merchandise.
For over 40 years, The Cove in Deerfield Beach, has been a cherished community gathering spot, and Pilar is proud to add its own vibrant touch to this beloved destination.
“This plaza has a special place in people’s hearts, and we’re honored to bring a fresh take to it,” says Max. “Our single-origin coffee and signature espresso blends have been a huge hit, and the love we’ve received from the community has been overwhelming.”
Pilar’s welcoming environment makes it the perfect spot for morning coffee runs, afternoon meet-ups, or a quiet retreat to unwind. And when the sun sets, the magic doesn’t stop. Pilar introduces its “Night Chilled” menu starting at 6 p.m., offering the perfect post-dinner or late-night treat.
The excitement surrounding Pilar’s flagship location has already sparked plans for expansion.
“We’re actively scouting locations in South Florida, and we’ve even had interest from people in other states looking to franchise,” Nicholas reveals. “There’s no doubt—Pilar is growing.”
But no matter how far it expands, the heart of Pilar remains the same: brewing unforgettable moments, fostering connections, and providing a peaceful escape for guests.
“We’re not just serving coffee,” Max adds. “We’re crafting an experience. Whether you’re meeting friends, catching up on work, or just savoring a moment for yourself, Pilar is a place to feel at home.”
And for those looking to indulge in something extra special? Pilar’s in-house gelato has quickly become a fan favorite, especially their Affogato al Caffe Flight. It’s a luxurious trio of creamy gelato flavors, drowned in the deep, rich bliss of Pilar’s own Espresso Doppio. “It’s one of those little surprises that people don’t expect but instantly fall in love with,” Max says with a smile.

Pilar Coffee Bar & Iced Treats invites you to experience the magic for yourself. Open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Takay Omakase Miami Opening on Coral Way Brings an Intimate 10 Seat Dining Experience
This 10-seat omakase opening in Miami is about to be one of the hardest reservations to get. Takay on Coral Way combines high-level sushi, intentional design, and a guest experience that feels personal from start to finish.
March 17, 2026
Miami, if you love a beautifully done omakase, this is one to have on your radar.
There is a new omakase concept opening this spring on Coral Way, and it already feels like the kind of place people will be trying to get into early. Takay is an intimate 10-seat experience created by founders Glen Kotlyarski and Yoni Matz, bringing together serious culinary pedigree with a very intentional, guest-focused vision.
Let’s start with the people behind it, because that is really what defines this concept.
Chef Glen Kotlyarski leads the culinary experience, bringing more than 2 decades of fine-dining expertise. His background includes the Jean Georges group and Miami’s Michelin-starred Hidden, and that level of precision and discipline is felt in every course. His approach draws from traditional Edomae sushi techniques, while staying grounded in seasonality and balance.
Alongside him, co-founder Yoni Matz brings a strong hospitality perspective shaped by years of building and operating restaurant concepts. His influence is clear in the overall experience, which is designed to feel warm, welcoming, and engaging rather than overly formal or intimidating.
And you feel that from the moment you arrive.
The space, designed by Japan based architecture firm KTX, is quietly stunning. Guests enter through a Japanese Zen garden, setting a calm and intentional tone before stepping inside. The interior blends traditional Japanese craftsmanship with subtle Miami influence, featuring natural materials, soft lighting, and a sculptural wooden wave installation inspired by The Great Wave off Kanagawa. The entire room is designed to slow you down and bring your attention fully into the experience.

Takay’s omakase follows a classic Edomae style, with two nightly seatings, each centered on a 17- or 20-course progression. Seafood is flown in from Japan and paired with seasonal ingredients from local farms, allowing the menu to evolve continuously.
The experience moves through sashimi, nigiri, and composed dishes, with each course prepared directly in front of guests and thoughtfully explained. It feels interactive, personal, and immersive, making the entire evening feel intentional.
It strikes that rare balance where the experience feels polished and high-level, but still comfortable enough to fully enjoy without overthinking it.
When it opens, Takay will offer a 17-course signature omakase at $225 per person and a 20-course extended omakase at $275. Each seating includes a welcome beverage, with optional sake, champagne, and wine pairings available.
Takay is located at 2296 Coral Way in Miami and will be open Tuesday through Saturday with seatings at 6 pm and 9 pm.
In a city known for large, high-energy dining scenes, Takay introduces something a little more intimate and intentional. It is the kind of place that focuses on the details, and those are usually the ones that stand out the most.
