Ascots, Accents and Elegance: “My Fair Lady” Charms Boca

An Era of Refinement Reimagined — Wick Theatre’s Lavish “My Fair Lady” Charms a Modern South Florida Audience.

January 28th, 2026

The Wick Theatre brings one of Broadway’s most beloved classics to life with My Fair Lady, a production that immediately transports audiences into a world of elegance, structure, and theatrical grandeur. From the opening moments, the show captures a magical time when women truly dressed like ladies. Elaborate costume designs fill the stage with beautiful hats, elegant gloves, and magnificent dresses, creating a visual richness that almost makes you envious that this kind of fashion is no longer part of everyday life.

That visual splendor is part of what the Wick does best. The theatre is renowned for its spectacular costumes, many of which originate from Marilynn Wick’s Costume World, the largest Broadway costume collection in the nation. While the original My Fair Lady designs by Cecil Beaton, including the iconic Julie Andrews ball gown, are far too fragile to be worn today, the creative team meticulously recreated new patterns from the archival pieces. The result is an authentic and stunning visual experience that honors Broadway history while preserving it for future generations.

Making her Wick debut, Allyson Rosenblum delivers a confident and heartfelt portrayal of Eliza Doolittle. A Carbonell-nominated performer familiar to South Florida audiences, Rosenblum fully embodies Eliza’s transformation from cockney flower girl to refined young woman, grounding the role with warmth, humor, and emotional honesty.

With more than two dozen musical numbers woven throughout the production, choosing a favorite feels nearly impossible. The musical storytelling consistently captivates, drawing audible oohs and ahhs from the audience. Iconic songs such as “Wouldn’t It Be Loverly,” “The Rain in Spain,” and “I Could Have Danced All Night” land with renewed energy, while “On the Street Where You Live” reminds you why this score has endured for generations.

The men of the cast are equally memorable, particularly Michael Coppola as Henry Higgins. Also making his Wick debut, Coppola commands the stage with a strong, exceptionally clear voice and confident presence. His performances of “I’m an Ordinary Man” and “I’ve Grown Accustomed to Her Face” generated some of the evening’s biggest reactions, sending the audience into enthusiastic applause.

Based on George Bernard Shaw’s Pygmalion, My Fair Lady may be set in the early twentieth century, but its themes remain strikingly relevant. Questions of class, language, and equality still resonate today, giving the production emotional weight that extends beyond its period setting.

Under the direction of Norb Joerder, with music direction by Bobby Peaco and choreography by Jeremy Benton, the production holds your attention from start to finish. You leave the theatre humming, carrying a piece of Broadway’s Golden Age with you long after the final bow.
