Underøath Bring an Incredible Finale to a Four Show Run in St Pete as They Cap Off Their Epic 20th Anniversary “They’re Only Chasing Safety” Tour – Photos and Review of the Underøath Concert at Jannus Live in St Petersburg, Florida

Underoath brought their “They’re Only Chasing Safety” 20th anniversary tour to an unforgettable close this past Monday night with the fourth and final show of their sold-out hometown run at Jannus Live. For four consecutive nights, the historic open-air venue in downtown St. Petersburg became the epicenter of 2004-era nostalgia as fans of all ages from across the state gathered to celebrate not only the album that defined a generation of post-hardcore music (along many of their teenage years), but also the enduring legacy of one of Florida’s most iconic heavy bands.

The evening’s energy was electric from the very beginning, thanks to the killer opening acts who brought their own sounds to the lineup. First up was Static Dress, a UK-based post-hardcore band that has been gaining significant traction in the scene thanks to their unique stage presence. Their raw, high-octane set showcased their ability to combine frenetic energy with visual depth, and tracks like “disposable care” and “Push Rope” drew the audience into their world as vocalist Olli Appleyard commanded the stage with unrelenting charisma. Though a newer name to some in the crowd, Static Dress left a strong impression, earning cheers that grew louder with each song.

Another one of Central Florida’s musical heroes were up next as Anberlin took the stage, adding one more layer of nostalgia and hometown pride to the night. Anberlin’s performance was nothing short of electric as they tore through a setlist filled with fan favorites, kicking off with “The Resistance” and “Never Take Friendship Personal“. The band’s new touring vocalist Matty Mullins (of Memphis May Fire fame) did an amazing job with the material, and the band sounded as tight as ever as they showcased some newer tracks like “Two Graves” and “High Stakes“. Anberlin also had a special surprise for the crowd as well, as the band’s original vocalist Stephen Christian came out to help sing their final song (and most popular song), “That Feel Good Drag“. Anberlin’s dynamic performance proved why they remain one of Florida’s most cherished bands, elevating the night to a full-blown celebration of the heights of the Tampa area heavy music scene.

Finally, the lights went down once again and Underoath began to make their way onto the stage, dimly lit by the tabletop lamps strewn about as they broke into the intro song to “They’re Only Chasing Safety“. The fans went absolutely bonkers as they picked up the pace with “Young and Aspiring” and “A Boy Brushed Red Living in Black and White“, with crowd-surfers and moshers galore having the time of their lives as the band transported them back two decades. The energy surged with each song, as fan-favorites like “Reinventing Your Exit” and “The Impact of Reason” had the packed venue singing along, shouting every lyric back at the band with youthful fervor.

Between songs, lead vocalist Spencer Chamberlain and drummer/vocalist Aaron Gillespie bantered with the crowd and shared stories about the album’s creation. “We poured everything we had into these songs, and to see them still resonate with you 20 years later is surreal” Chamberlain told the crowd before Underoath finished the full playthrough of their seminal album with “I Don’t Feel Very Receptive Today” and “I’m Content With Losing“. But thankfully, that wasn’t the end of the night and Underoath’s gratitude toward their fans was on full display as they performed a six-song encore featuring tracks voted on by the fans themselves, along with some brand new sneak peeks from their brand new album which Chamberlain revealed will be out in March of next year. Between the new single “Generation No Surrender” and three classic tracks from “Define the Great Line“, Underoath’s performance showcased their musical growth while staying true to the raw emotion and unfiltered intensity that made “They’re Only Chasing Safety” so impactful.

Before the final notes of the encore reverberated through Jannus Live, Underoath once again expressed their gratitude to fans who had supported them for two decades. “Whether it’s your first time seeing us or your tenth, welcome to the Underoath family” Chamberlain told the crowd before the band finished up their time on stage with “Writing on the Walls“, giving the crowd one last chance to sing along and mosh it out. The night ended with a collective sense of triumph and nostalgia as fans soaked in the final moments of the band’s milestone tour, and for Underoath this wasn’t just another show; it was a homecoming, a celebration, and a heartfelt thank you to the community that raised them.
