Connor Wood’s Bring His Comedy Tour “Fibs and Friends” to Florida

From TikTok to the Stage, Connor Wood’s ‘Fibs and Friends’ Tour Shakes Up Florida with an Unexpected Opening and Endless Laughter!
October 3rd, 2024
Connor Wood’s comedy tour “Fibs and Friends” has taken the state of Florida by storm as he had shows in Tampa, Orlando, Miami and Dania Beach this past week. Known online as @fibula, Connor began his comedy career creating hilarious TikTok videos during quarantine. This is when I was first introduced to his content and have been a loyal follower since. In addition to stand-up, he co-hosts “Brooke and Connor Make a Podcast” with the equally funny Brooke Averick, which I tune in to every Thursday.
Curious to see if he could match his online humor in a live setting, I attended his show in Dania Beach. To my surprise, the opening act was none other than Connor Wood himself. It’s unusual for a headliner to open a show; typically, they come on last after 2-3 other comics.
Connor said that when he began planning for his tour, he had no idea that you weren’t supposed to open for yourself. Although this may seem like an amateur move, I think it’s genius. As an audience member there to see Connor, I appreciated not having to wait an hour for him to take the stage. This approach allowed us to get a taste of what we came for, making it easier to enjoy the other three comics before his main set. The other performers did a great job, especially Maggie Winters, who is featured on all his tour stops.
I had high expectations for the show, and I’m happy to say that Fibula did not disappoint. Even if you’re not familiar with him on TikTok, his material is accessible, mixing relevant topics with inside jokes that his followers would appreciate (example, “Luckily I have a purse”). What makes Connor so likable and funny is that he is authentically himself on stage and online— a normal guy in his 20s who loves to make people laugh.
Toward the end of his set he did some crowd work, an area he’s mentioned on his podcast that he’s looking to improve. He did a great job connecting with the entire audience, rather than just focusing on one group. Also, many comics and performers tend to lean heavily into the “Florida people are crazy” narrative when they come to our state. While there’s some truth to that, it can quickly become repetitive if it dominates their set. Connor mentioned his wild Uber driver during his time in Florida, and that was just the right amount of “Florida” humor and it didn’t overshadow the rest of his material.
Overall, the show was fantastic. I enjoyed the flow, and Connor’s jokes were relatable, simple, and based on real experiences—qualities that resonate with his audience. His humor is lighthearted and genuinely funny, and I’d gladly see him perform again if he returns to South Florida. If you’d like to experience it for yourself, catch “Fibs and Friends” at various locations throughout the rest of 2024. Link to tickets HERE.
