Tommy Paul d. Alex Michelsen

In an intense tennis showdown between Tommy Paul and Alex Michelsen, the match unfolded in a three-set battle, with scores of 5-7, 6-4, 7-6(7-4). This marked the first meeting between the two players, and the competition was fierce from the start.

The initial two sets were evenly contested, with Michelsen claiming the first set and Paul responding with a win in the second. This led to a decisive third set to determine the match’s outcome.

During the third set, at a crucial moment with Tommy serving at 2-3, he faced a break point following an unreturned serve. Michelsen showcased his skills with a remarkable dropshot, testing Tommy’s abilities. Despite the challenge, Tommy managed to handle the shot, forcing a deuce and leveling the set at 3 games each.

As both players approached the finish line, they unleashed their best strokes in a thrilling baseline backhand exchange. Alex successfully defended his serve, taking a 4-3 lead. In a bid to equalize, Tommy found himself at the net, skillfully returning a hard shot from Alex, tying the match at 4-all.

With Tommy leading 40-30, he executed a soft cross-court forehand to prevent Alex from winning at the net, but ultimately lost the game. Undeterred, Tommy bounced back with a dominant game, finishing it with a powerful forehand at love.

At 5-all with Alex serving, the players engaged in a captivating rally, with Tommy covering the court in an attempt to secure the point. However, Alex claimed the game with a remarkable forehand followed by an unexpected dropshot.

Facing a critical moment at 5-6, Tommy fought to stay in the match and managed to capitalize on several second serves. The tension rose as the match was poised for a tiebreak, which remained competitive until 3-3. In a decisive sprint, Tommy secured the victory, ultimately emerging as the winner of this hard-fought match.

Flavio Cobolli d. Zachary Svajda

In a hard-fought battle during the qualifiers, Flavio Cobolli emerged victorious over Zachary Svajda with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-7 (1-7), 6-2. The match showcased the resilience of both young players, with Zachary earning a spot in the main draw through the qualifiers, while Flavio entered as a Lucky Loser.

The first set witnessed numerous unforced errors from both competitors. The second set, however, evolved into a highly competitive affair. Cobolli had an early opportunity to break, displaying a powerful forehand, but a miscue at the net with an easy ball halted his momentum. The set progressed to a tiebreaker, where Zachary turned the tide, leveling the match.

As the second set concluded and the third set began, the Italian player, Cobolli, appeared fatigued and even received a warning from the umpire for venting frustration by tossing a ball out of the stadium. Despite this momentary setback, Cobolli refocused and showcased exceptional skill at 0-1, 30 all, producing what was arguably the best point of the match—a swinging volley that forced Zachary to make a miraculous retrieval. Despite Cobolli’s apparent lack of energy, he continued to unleash powerful shots, strategically aiming to end points swiftly and conserve energy. This tactic proved effective as he secured the crucial points, ultimately clinching victory in the match.

Francis Tiafoe d. Radu Albot

In a thrilling first-time encounter, Francis Tiafoe secured victory over Radu Albot with a scoreline of 7-6(7-5), 7-6(7-4).

Tiafoe made a scorching start to the match, confidently claiming the first three games. Despite Albot managing to get on the scoreboard, trailing 1-4, he quickly bounced back by breaking in the subsequent game, narrowing the gap to 2-4. The momentum shifted as Tiafoe faced a challenging 0-40 situation in the following game, eventually getting broken and allowing Albot to level the score at 3-4.

The exchanges between the two players continued, resulting in a highly entertaining match that went the distance in both sets. The tension escalated in the nail-biting double tiebreaker, where Tiafoe ultimately emerged victorious, eliciting cheers from the fans who were fervently supporting him throughout the intense encounter.
