Viva Wyndham Maya Resort – REVIEW

Published

With travel nearing a post pandemic high, Viva Wyndham Maya Resort provides an unforgettable experience in Mexico.

June 28th – July 2nd, 2022

Located south of Cancun in Playa del Carmen, Viva Wyndham Maya Resort the gorgeous all-inclusive resort has everything you need to lounge in luxury as well as explore the sights of the Yucatan. The resort really makes a point to maximize your experience.

From sunup to sundown, Viva Wyndham Maya Resort offers a vast array of amenities and entertainment for just about every taste. Each of the 604 rooms are just steps away from the white sands and a picturesque view of the Gulf of Mexico. There are plenty of lounge chairs to waste the day away soaking up the sun and enjoying drinks from several all-inclusive full bars throughout the property. However, for the more adventurous types, there are several watersport activities as well such as paddle boards, boogie boards, kayaks and sailboats. You can even sign up to take a ride on the catamaran and get a deeper look at the illustrious blue waters. Still, if you need a break from the water, there is also a beach volleyball court that always seemed to have a game going on.

The freshwater pools were also a very popular way to soak up the sun as well as participate in the numerous activities provided by the resort. Group fitness activities were scheduled throughout the day in parts of the pool as well as a DJ playing great tunes nonstop. The main pool had a section for smaller children that was set aside for safety and convenience while a secluded pool is reserved for adults on the other side of the property. There was also a full bar in the pool that guests could swim up to and receive endless drinks. Surrounding the pool area was a snack bar that served a delicious array of burgers, tacos, salads and pizza. The snack bar was open with full service during the day until 2am.

Each day throughout the property guests can expect to fill their schedule with an array of nonstop activities, all of which are listed on a unique app you can download. However, most of the fun is in close proximity to the main pool. Guests have an opportunity to participate in foam parties, darts tournaments and several different themed dance parties. In the evenings, live music plays in the open lounge areas by the lobby. Each night featured a different variety of singers and acoustic performers. The night kicks off with a grand show on the main stage. Each night has a different theme and show type. The Cirque du Soleil Esque show features a team of performers doing rope acrobatics as well as many different dance routines with each featuring a different music theme. On one of the nights the show featured a trivia game where guests were brought on stage to win prizes. The performers did a great job as did the DJ and lighting crew to help bring the show together. It really was a must see and a great way to finish off a busy day at the resort. Yet, for those not ready to call it a night, the discotheque continues the party well into the night with an open bar and dancing for adults.

Another great highlight of the resort was the Renova Spa. Available by appointment, it has many relaxing features. You can feel the tranquility as soon as you walk in and notice the zenful architecture and gardens. The spa features massages, several body treatments and facials. After a massage, guests can lounge in one of several open-air hot tubs. It’s also equipped with a salon for hair and waxing treatments. The spa makes for a great finish to a full day out in the sun or enjoying some of the property’s sports and fitness activities.

In addition to the numerous water activities available at Viva Wyndham Maya Resort, there’s also several things to do on land at the resort. A full gym is located on the property so you don’t have to miss a workout…even though you are on vacation. The fitness center is open all day and has most of the equipment you would find in your usual gym. Next to the fitness center, there are two tennis courts. The great feature of these tennis courts is that they are located on the roof of one of the lodging buildings. Here you are provided with equipment and have a great view of the property while you play. In the same area of the courts and fitness center is the archery range. Here you will be provided with the bow and arrows, as well as instruction from a trained staff member to shoot the perfect shot. But, if these activities weren’t enough, you also have an opportunity to take out bicycles to ride around the local area or try out a trapeze. The giant carnivalesque setup is located near the pool area and gives you a fun and safe experience. Trained guides will help you into a harness and climb up into the trapeze course where you can swing and do some tricks before being lowered down into a net. The attraction is first come first serve and has times reserved for different age groups. A list of times can be found on the app.

Featured on the Viva Wyndham app, guests can make reservations for the resort’s outstanding and unique dinner cuisine. The restaurants are located on property and each on gives you a different vibe and taste. At Portofino, guests can enjoy the rich dishes and flavors of the Mediterranean. The meal begins with a choice of a salmon salad, minestrone soup or croquettes stuffed with octopus and ham. These tasty Mediterranean inspired dishes will leave the palate begging for more. The main course consists of choices of a shellfish soup in a shaffron and sherry wine, gyro kabob on a salad with a side of fries, chicken stuffed with spinach and feta cheese, as well as a salmon with Mediterranean herbs. Each dish comes in the perfect portion size and was cooked perfectly. To finish off the meal the choices of desserts consist of Baklava, Creme Brulee, Loukoumades or a mixed fruit plate.

Another restaurant option is Hacienda Don Diego, which really is a must to get authentic food of the country. The restaurant gives you a great variety of local dishes that are out of this world. You start off the meal with a choice of nachos, salad with a yogurt vinaigrette dressing or a sample platter of Mexican appetizers including quesadillas, tacos, nachos and burritos. The main course gives many options of traditional Mexican favorites. One such favorite, the chicken fajitas came with very succulent chicken paired with fresh peppers and incredibly fresh and fluffy tortillas. However, you can’t go wrong with any of the other options of entrees including pork tacos, chicken quesadillas or grilled grouper with rice. Each dish gives a different perspective of the traditions of Mexican cuisine. Make sure to save room for dessert where there is a choice of popular Mexican desserts such as the exquisite tastes of Tres Leches and Arroz Con Leches.

At Viva Café guests get to enjoy a modern fine dining feel with an international taste to match. Start off with a choice of bruschetta, salad or pistachio cream with strawberry mousse. All three appetizers are rich with flavor and are just the right size to prepare you for your entre. The main course has many options that will satisfy just about any taste and diet. The filet mignon is probably the most popular dish. The steak was cooked properly to temperature and came with a delicious side of pumpkin puree. However, if steak isn’t your favorite, you also have the option of gourmet chicken, tuna, pasta, lasagna or shrimp dishes. Each comes with great portion sizes and are presented with a wide variety of sides and garnishes. Dessert features a choice of cheesecake, fruit bowl or cup of cream cheese ice cream. Each was delicious and finished off the Viva Cafe meal very well.

And yes, the resort has a buffet, but on a very large scale. La Terraza offers buffet style cuisine for all three meals of the day. Starting at 6:30 am a giant breakfast selection is available with just about everything you can think of. From breakfast meats, veggies and even an omelet station where you can create your own on the spot. A wide array of juices is available as well as choices of fresh smoothies. Coffee is available and is served by the excellent wait staff.

However, coffee, espresso and smoothies can also be found all day at the Viva Cafe lounge. Lunch and dinner provide a wide array of options throughout the day and a salad bar is available to start the meals off with many different choices of toppings and dressings. There are also plenty of protein options with a unique flavor each day. A chef is constantly cooking fresh meats to go right on your plate. The buffet offers a great variety to avoid the same dishes over and over each day of your stay. As always, save room for dessert where you can conquer your sweet tooth at their small ice cream bar along with a great selection of cakes.

While the activities and restaurants make their mark on their guests, the rooms at Viva Wyndham Maya Resort take things up a notch too. They’re full of space, luxury and all the amenities you need to be comfortable during your stay. Each room comes with a balcony that gives you a great view of the pools and property. Yet, some rooms have the added bonus of featuring Jacuzzis, which are a perfect way to help you unwind after a long day of fun in the sun. The spacious rooms give you enough open area to feel like you are at home. The large comfortable beds will guarantee a sound night sleep. Amenities such as hairdryers, safes and fridges are also available in each room. No matter which room you stay on the property, your just minutes away to all the restaurants and attractions offered at Viva Wyndham Riviera Maya.

Excursions can be planned in the main lobby area and are a great way to see the magnificent attractions and historical surroundings of the Yucatan Peninsula. The resort makes it very easy to book day trips to a wide array of fun and interesting places nearby. They provide the tickets and set up transportation to many tours and local attractions that make the area of Mexico very popular such as Chichen-Itza pyramids, thrill parks, cenotes, fishing, boating and snorkeling adventures.

Viva Wyndham Maya Resort is an excellent choice to help make the most of your trip to Mexico. The great staff makes everything luxurious and simple so you can enjoy the most of your vacation. There is so much to do on property during the day and evenings you don’t even have to venture that far. Just such a great place to visit, no matter the occasion. I highly recommend a stay here and to see the picturesque view of the Gulf of Mexico.
