Al Green: The Reverend of Soul Graces Hollywood
The Spirit of Soul Alive and Well as Al Green Shines in South Florida – Photos and Review of the Al Green Concert at the Hard Rock Live in Hollywood, FL
The iconic guitar-shaped silhouette of the Hard Rock Hotel stood tall last night as a fitting prelude to an evening dedicated to a different kind of instrumental mastery: the unparalleled voice of the Reverend Al Green. Within the walls of the Hard Rock Live at the Seminole Casino and Hotel in Hollywood, a palpable sense of anticipation hummed. There was no opening act, no supporting player; the night was a promise of pure, unadulterated soul, and the audience, a multigenerational tapestry of fans, was ready to receive the testimony.

Finally, the lights dimmed, the backing band took their place, and the auditorium quieted to a whisper as the anticipation bloomed. When the man himself emerged, resplendent in a sharp blue suit, the room completely erupted as he began to toss out his signature red roses into the crowd that had rushed to the front of the stage. The years seemed to melt away as he launched into his set with “I Cant Stop“, kicking off a carefully curated journey through the greatest hits that have cemented his legacy. From the first note, it was clear that this was not a “nostalgia act” going through the motions; this was Al Green, the soul legend, fully in command of his art and his audience.

As he worked his way through the soundtrack of love and heartache that defined an era, it was easy to see that the spirit, the passion, and the unmistakable sound were all powerfully intact. Belting out “Everything is Gonna Be Alright” while handing out roses to his adoring fans, the barrier between performer and audience dissolved. “Let’s Stay Together” arrived early, its smooth, irresistible groove washing over the crowd and prompting a sea of swaying bodies and unified voices. Taking a few moments to sit down and speak with the audience before launching into “Take Me To The River” and a medley of his greatest hits, he was part-singer, part-preacher, and entirely an entertainer who understands how to truly speak to those who have come to see him.

The concert culminated in a joyous, celebratory atmosphere, with the finale consisting of three of his most well-known songs. He didn’t just sing “Tired of Being Alone“— he testified to it, clutching his heart and reaching out to the front rows, making each person feel the ache and the hope in the lyrics. The raw energy of “Im Still In Love With You” and “Love and Happiness” transformed the theater into a choir with Al Green as our charismatic guide, preaching the gospel of good times and soulful rhythms. As the final notes of an extended jam faded, Al Green, now glistening with sweat and beaming with gratitude, thanked his incredible band and his faithful fans. For those in attendance it was a communion with a living legend, a timeless voice that, for one magical night in Hollywood, Florida, made everything feel simply wonderful.
