The inaugural edition of the “Summer of Loud” metal festival tour exploded into life last night at the iThink Financial Amphitheater, treating a sea of devoted fans to an unforgettable night of blistering riffs, earth-shaking breakdowns, and raw, unfiltered energy. With a lineup featuring TX2, Alphawolf, The Devil Wears Prada, The Amity Affliction, Beartooth, Killswitch Engage, Parkway Drive, and I Prevail, the festival’s opening night set the bar impossibly high for the rest of the tour. From the first note to the final encore, the crowd was a swirling mass of crowd-surfers, mosh pits, and roaring singalongs—proof that heavy music is alive and thriving.

TX2 Sets the Tone with Rebellious Fury

The balmy day kicked off with TX2, the rising punk-metal hybrid act known for their chaotic energy and unapologetic attitude. Frontman Timothy Evan Thomas wasted no time, diving into the crowd and screaming lyrics from “Hostage from the moshpit as fans immediately erupted into a frenzy. The band’s raw, DIY aesthetic and anthemic choruses made them the perfect opener, setting the stage for the relentless energy to come. Though their set was short, TX2 left a lasting impression, proving why they’re one of the most exciting new acts in the scene.

Alpha Wolf Unleashes Pure Chaos

After a quick stage turnaround, Australian metalcore wrecking crew Alpha Wolf followed with a set that felt like a sledgehammer to the chest. From the moment they launched into “Mangekyō“, the pit transformed into a swirling vortex of limbs as vocalist Lochie Keogh stalked the stage like a man possessed, his guttural lows cutting through the band’s razor-sharp riffs. Tracks like “Creep” and “Sub-Zero” incited some of the most volatile crowd reactions of the night, cementing Alpha Wolf’s reputation as one of the most punishing live bands in modern heavy music.

The Devil Wears Prada Delivers a Career-Spanning Set

The Devil Wears Prada were up next, bringing a mix of nostalgia and fresh intensity, blending early metalcore classics with material from their latest releases. Opening with “Watchtower, the band showcased the evolved sound on their latest album “Color Decay” while still delivering the crushing heaviness that made them scene legends. Fans lost their minds when they dropped “Danger: Wildman”, proving that their old-school hits still hit just as hard. Jeremy DePoyster’s cleans provided a haunting contrast to Mike Hranica’s signature screams, making for a dynamic and emotionally charged performance.

The Amity Affliction Strikes an Emotional Chord

Fellow Australian metalcore giants The Amity Affliction took the stage next, delivering a set packed with soaring melodies and crushing despair. Frontman Joel Birch commanded the crowd with his raw, emotional delivery, and fan favorites like “Pittsburgh” and “Death’s Hand” turned into massive singalongs, with hundreds of voices echoing back every word. The band’s signature blend of melancholy and aggression resonated deeply, showcasing why they remain one of the most beloved acts in the genre.

Beartooth Brings Unmatched Energy

Beartooth turned the energy up to eleven with an explosive set that had the pyrotechnics blasting and the entire amphitheater moving. Frontman Caleb Shomo was a whirlwind of motion, sprinting across the stage as flames exploded around him during “The Lines and “The Past is Dead“. The band’s anthemic choruses and relentless riffs had fists pumping in the air throughout their entire performance, while “You Never Know” and “In Between incited some of the biggest pits of the night. Shomo’s raw, unfiltered passion was substantial, making it clear why Beartooth has become one of modern metal’s most essential live acts.

Killswitch Engage Revives Metalcore’s Golden Era

Metalcore pioneers Killswitch Engage were up next, and they delivered a masterclass in precision and power, ripping through a career-spanning set that celebrated their 25th anniversary as a band and once again reminded everyone why they’re legends in the heavy metal scene. Jesse Leach’s soaring vocals on “Rose of Sharyn and “In Due Time were flawless, while Adam Dutkiewicz shredded and joked his way through the performance, keeping the crowd entertained between songs. The pit reached a fever pitch during “My Curse and “The End of Heartache, with fans screaming every word back at the band as they spun the amphitheater in a circle. Finishing up with “My Last Serenade” and their cover of Dio’sHoly Diver“,  Killswitch Engange proved that even after decades in the game, they’re still at the top of their craft.

Parkway Drive’s Pyrotechnic Spectacle

Keeping up with the “Down Under” theme of the festival, Australian metal titans Parkway Drive turned the amphitheater into a warzone with their jaw-dropping production and relentless intensity. Flames erupted during “Glitch” and “Prey, wasting zero time getting the mosh-pits spinning, and frontman Winston McCall’s commanding presence held the crowd in a “Vice Grip” as they blasted though “Soul Bleach” and “The Void“. Sacred and “Bottom Feeder ignited a sea of crowd-surfers, and the band’s cinematic visuals elevated their performance to a whole new level during their set-closer “Crushed“, as drummer Ben Gordon’s kit spun upside down while engulfed in flames, putting on a full-scale metal spectacle that left everyone breathless.

I Prevail Close the Night with a Triumphant Headlining Set

Closing out the night, I Prevail proved exactly why they’re one of modern metal’s biggest bands. Bursting onto the stage with “Bow Down, the Michigan natives had the entire crowd jumping in unison. Dylan Bowman’s soaring cleans and Eric Vanlerberghe’s monstrous screams created a perfect dynamic, while tracks like “Body Bag and “Self-Destruction incited deafening singalongs. Their viral cover of “Blank Space was a surprise highlight, but it was the live debut of new songs “Violent Nature and “Into Hell that truly brought the house down. With clouds of fog, blasts of pyro, and an electrifying stage presence, I Prevail delivered a show-stopping set that solidified the Summer of Loud as an instant classic.

From the raw intensity of TX2 to the explosive finale from I Prevail, the opening night of the Summer of Loud  festival was nothing short of spectacular. Every band brought their A-game, and the crowd’s energy never wavered—proof that heavy music is as vital as ever. If this was just night one, the rest of the tour is going to be absolutely insane, and here’s hoping that the Summer of Loud becomes a regular summer touring event in the style of Ozzfest or Warped!
