The Modern Thrash Metal Giants Bring Their “BrainSqueeze” Tour to the Balmy Shores of Florida – Review and Photos of the Municipal Waste, Ghoul and Necrot Concert at the Culture Room in Ft Lauderdale, Florida

The Culture Room was transformed into a heavy metal haven this Tuesday as Virginia thrash legends Municipal Waste took the stage for a night of intense energy and headbanging madness. Supported by an impressive lineup of opening acts including Dead Heat, Necrot and Ghoul, the venue was set on fire with a relentless onslaught of heavy riffs, pounding drums, and frenetic mosh pits.

Kicking off the evening, Dead Heat unleashed their raw energy with a set filled with blistering guitar solos and aggressive vocals. Taking their name from an 80’s horror movie, the California-based group’s songs like “Hard Reset” and “Pay the Toll” walked the perfect line between cheesy and brutal. Their hardcore punk influences shone through their thrash-metal filled performance, setting the perfect tone for the mayhem that was to follow.

After Dead Heat finished up their set, Necrot took the stage with their brand of old-school death metal, starting off with “Cut the Cord” and “Your Hell“. Guitarist Sonny Reinhardt delivered crushing riffs and bassist-vocalist Luca Indrio laid down epic guttural vocals that reverberated through the venue. The fans responded with fervor, eagerly lapping up every bone-crushing riff and thunderous drumbeat while moshing the entire time. Necrot finished up their time on stage with “Empty Hands” and “Sinister Will“, and the wait for the next band began.

As the anticipation reached its peak, Ghoul finally emerged onto the stage amidst a backdrop of backlit smoke. Featuring eerie visuals and elaborate costumes, the group wore masks the entire time they were on stage and brought out costumed guests to come dance around on stage and interact with the audience. The show reminded me a lot of a thrash metal GWAR concert, without having to wash the corn syrup out of your hair for days afterwards. Ghoul’s unique blend of thrash metal and horror-themed theatrics captivated the audience, with songs like “Word is Law” and “Graveyard Mosh” inciting chaos in the mosh pit.

Finally, as the lights dimmed once again, the moment every was waiting for arrived as Municipal Waste stormed onto the stage, greeted by a deafening roar from the crowd. From the opening chords of “The Executioner” to the closing notes of “Born to Party” the band delivered a non-stop barrage of high-octane thrash metal that left no head un-banged and no neck un-sore. Highlights of the night included fan favorites like “Thrashin’ of the Christ” “Beer Pressure” and “The Art of Partying” along with some new tracks from their latest album “Electrified Brain“, and each song was met with an enthusiastic response from the crowd, who sang along with every word and raised their fists in unison.

Waste frontman Tony Foresta commanded the stage with charismatic energy, inciting the crowd to unleash their pent-up aggression in the form of swirling mosh pits and crowd-surfing mayhem. Guitarists Ryan Waste and Nick Poulos shredded through blistering solos with precision, while drummer Dave Witte and bassist Phil “LandPhil” Hall provided a thunderous rhythm section that kept the intensity at a fever pitch throughout the entire set. After a whirlwind setlist that kept the entire venue amped to the max, the band finished off their tie on stage with an encore performance of “Demoralizer“.

As the energy of the crowd finally subsided as they wandered back to their cars, your could see that Municipal Waste’s performance at the Culture Room was nothing short of electrifying. With a lineup of opening acts like Ghoul, Necrot and Dead Heat that are guaranteed to set the stage on fire and a headlining set filled with adrenaline-fueled thrash anthems, it was a night that will be remembered by metalheads for years to come.
