No Yolk—Best Brunch Ever
Holy Crepe, That’s Delicious! A Forkful of Flavor at SOBEWFF’s Farmers Market Brunch.
February 23rd, 2025
I had the pleasure of attending the South Beach Wine & Food Festival. The Farmers Market Brunch edition was presented by Violife and hosted by Michael Schwartz at the Port of Miami Design District. The $131 price per ticket event was absolutely worth every penny, delivering an unforgettable culinary experience in a stunning outdoor setting. With the warm South Florida sun and a refreshing Atlantic breeze, the atmosphere was nothing short of perfect for a Sunday brunch.
The food selection was amazing, featuring small bites from prominent chefs and restaurants across the country. Upon entering, I was greeted by Harry’s Pizzeria’s flavorful meatball and bitter greens pizza, which set the tone for my delicious journey. Jose Garces from Philadelphia served up a delightful breakfast pastel, while Miami’s JRK! brought a mild heat flavor with jerk chicken and cabbage slaw with rice and peas (YEAH MON).
Tacos were also a highlight, with Scott Linquist of Coyo Taco offering a birria egg and cheese taco. My hometown chef, Clay Conley from West Palm Beach, impressed with spinach and artichoke croquettes, while Josh Elliott of QP Tapas in Miami introduced a beautifully made Escalivada Japonesa. Nixt Taqueria from Austin, Texas, delivered an outstanding plate of chilaquiles that had bold flavors with every bite.
Are you full yet? Well, let me keep going. Some of my other highlights included Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, which served an outstanding breakfast sandwich—oh, so satisfying. Tacotomia delighted with their short rib tamal colado—now this I really enjoyed. The Katherine, a Fort Lauderdale favorite, presented an exquisite wild mushroom morcilla rice, showcasing their culinary creativity. If you wanted a lighter option, Abbale Telavivian Kitchen also served crunchy cauliflower, perfect for those watching their figure—LOL!
But the undeniable showstopper of the event was Chef Bae’s Cookies n’ Creme Cake Jars. The mouthwatering dessert was made with Violife’s dairy-free cream cheese and butter. I’m a man who rarely indulges in dessert, but this was a revelation—smooth, decadent, and proof that skipping dairy doesn’t mean sacrificing flavor. Janina Simmonds was raving about it, and for good reason—the richness and texture were to die for!
To cap off the experience, I sipped on Prairie Organic Spirits and Kamora Coffee Liqueur, both of which provided the perfect finish to an incredible brunch. The balance of a beautiful South Florida atmosphere, terrific music, great food, and expertly made cocktails sealed the deal for an unforgettable experience.
If this year’s event is any indication, SOBEWFF’s Farmers Market Brunch is a must attend for 2026, as it will return February 19–22. I’ll definitely be there—and if you love great wine, spirits, and food in a beautiful setting, you should be too!
