Christian Kukuk Wins Rolex Grand Prix at Wellington International

Wellington International Hosted a Thrilling Culmination of Winter Equestrian Festival with $500,000 Rolex Grand Prix; Christian Kukuk Claimed Top Honors Amidst Intense Competition, Setting the Stage for Summer Olympic Aspirations.

The most high-profile horse event in the country took place in Wellington, Florida, on Saturday with an impressive $500,000 top prize and bragging rights for the winner, Christian Kukuk (Germany), ahead of this Summer Olympics in Paris! Wellington International, the largest equestrian venue in North America, hosted the final Saturday Night Lights competition of the season. Heralded as the most prestigious competition of the Winter Equestrian Festival and one of the last U.S. stops before official Olympic selections begin, the $500,000 Rolex Grand Prix competition featured forty of the most elite horse-and-riders from across the globe – including (14) of the top 30 riders in the world.

The Top Prize and Winner of the 2024 $500,000 Rolex Grand Prix CSI5* went to Christian Kukuk (Germany) with close runner up McLain Ward (USA) and third place went to Karl Cook (USA). Nine (9) riders, out of 40, jumped clear (no faults) to compete in the jump off – including McLain Ward, Karl Cook, and Laura Kraut from the USA; World Ranked #2 Ben Maher from UK; Christian Kukuk (Germany); Kendra Claricia Brinkop (Germany); Daniel Bluman (Israel);  Cian O’Connor (Ireland); Darragh Kenny (Ireland). Competitors vying for the top prize included riders from the U.S., U.K., Egypt, Sweden, Brazil, Belgium, Canada, Ireland, Mexico, Germany, France, and beyond, navigated a fast-paced and exciting course designed by Brazil’s Guilherme Jorge, the famed course builder for the Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2016.  The obstacles reach 160cm in height which is the equivalent of jumping over a person who is 5’2” and as wide as 6’7”.

  • World Ranked #10 McLain Ward (USA), U.S. Olympic Show Jumping Team Silver Medalist
  • World Ranked #28 Laura Kraut (USA), U.S. Olympic Show Jumping Team Gold Medalist
  • Rodrigo Pessoa (BRA) – Rolex Testimonee; Brazilian Olympic Champion
  • Lillie Keenan (USA) – 27-year-old rising star, World Ranked #48

Nearly 8,000 fans attended the event with riders from across the globe. Free to the public, guests enjoyed the thrill & excitement of International Horse Jumping competition and the ultimate Saturday Night Lights experience with delicious food, live music, shopping, face painting, bounce houses, pony rides, a petting zoo, magicians, stilt walkers, and more! Guests also enjoyed upgraded viewing experiences to watch the world-class competition from the best seats in the house with gourmet buffets, open bars, private seating, and gorgeous views.

The Equestrian Festival’s impact on Palm Beach? The internationally recognized Winter Equestrian Festival (WEF) at Wellington International is the largest and longest-running annual equestrian competition in North America, and one of the country’s best kept sports venue secrets.
