New Found Glory – INTERVIEW with JORDAN PUNDIK

Published

on

New Found Glory drops their 8th studio album Resurrection and return as a 4-piece band.

October 11th, 2014

What’s it like being home in South Florida hanging out and performing with friends and family around?
Jordan – It’s always stressful, because I have like a huge family and a lot of cousins, some of which I barely know hitting me up to come out to the show. They’re like I’m your mom’s, dad’s cousin. But, it’s also cool seeing my old high school friends and my grandparents down here, because since I moved to San Diego like 14 years ago, I don’t see them as much.

How do you feel that vibe changes when you play down here?
Jordan – It’s a bit different, because sometimes playing the larger shows and away from places like here in South Florida, I feel like I have to prove myself, but here everyone’s just like embracing me with live. It’s a great feeling not having to worry too much.

You guys have been doing this for close to 17 years, but recently you’ve changed things up by becoming a four piece on this fantastic album so did that change alter the writing process on how all of you create together?
Jordan – Well, it definitely brought us closer together going through everything I went through as a band, all collectively. It made us stronger. So that was definitely the catalyst to start what the record is out, with the ups and downs that we went through. This record I think was the easiest to write, honestly. We’d meet like once a week all around a table and figure out what we wanted the record to say, how we’re going to sound and we really committed to the 4-piece and brought it to the studio.

And I was I was also noticing that you always are so amazingly themed, like going through chapters that you guys do as a band together. Do you feel there’s an album that fully encompasses the time of your life?

Jordan – I would say Coming Home and I know that when that record came out, everyone’s like “ah you guys sold out” or whatever it was, but now it’s like, cool. I just think that time in our lives kind of created this overly positive energy, because we were all together in this house for two months, like just working on songs all day with no distractions, there was nothing around.

And kind of a different feel for the band, what was the effect you guys were going for in the music video “It’s Not Your Fault,” was it to kind of troll your new audience?
Jordan – It was kind of to just screw with people a little bit. You should see the YouTube comments, it’s so good. Honestly, we’ve done so many videos and we just thought it’d be funny to have these young dudes parading all around.
