ATRON: “Walking on the Clouds”
Will Oaks, lead singer of Swedish rock band ATRON discusses excitement for upcoming album.
May 19th, 2022
An eclectic trio to say the least, consisting of a former pop singer, a certified rockstar, and “The Bridge,” ATRON may just be Sweden’s next big thing.
The band recently released their latest single “They Don’t Care About Us Now” along with a music video in preparation for their debut album CLOUDS, which is set to come out at the beginning of next year. The band, with lead vocalist Will Oaks, guitarist Martin Svensson, and Jim Morgan (more popularly known as “The Bridge”) are planning to release several more singles before the album’s release.
“It’s sort of, you know, a statement of freedom,” Oaks said of the new single. “Basically just be who you’re supposed to be, and so it’s a positive song, and it was super nice working on that and singing it, too. We’re really proud of it. It’s great to have it out.”
The band has an origin story as chaotic as you would expect for such a motley crew. Will Oaks and “The Bridge” had been mutual friends when Martin Svensson, who they barely knew, invited them over to “write some tunes.” They knew before the session’s end that this would not be a one time thing and instantly set out to produce what would become their first ever single.
“We basically went there and I had no expectations,” Oaks said. “I was just happy to do something fun. And so within the first 10 minutes of being there at his place Martin had this huge speech, sort of as if he got an epiphany from God or something. He was like, ‘I see it in front of me now. This is going to be something special we have to create a band.’”
From that day on, the band set forth in producing their upcoming album with Svensson as the lead songwriter. Originally working out of their homes, the band eventually moved into a studio where they got to work with “real instruments” and cranked out the rest of the album.
“In this project, or in this band it is really the energy,” Oaks said. “I’ve never experienced anything like it. We used to call it ‘flow’. It’s just happening and we get so energized in the studio, and it’s actually really funny. We were laughing about it, because all the time we’re screaming and having ideas constantly. And so, obviously, that will define our friendship as well. It’s just very interesting chemistry.”
Oaks describes the album as “diverse” with a lot of different sounds stemming from the members’ differing backgrounds. In their singles, it is easy to see the influence of mixing genres to create an entirely new, harmonious style of soulful singing, electronic beats and rockin’ guitars.
“That’s what’s so interesting about this project for me personally, and I think for the other guys, too, is that it’s such a mixture between all of these influences that we all have,” Oaks said. “I come from a rock background and a soul background, and even a singer-songwriter background. And Martin and The Bridge, they come from a more of a pop-oriented world … so it’s very interesting to see I think that no one individually would have been able to create these songs. It is really a mixture.”
Being a band from Sweden, a big goal for ATRON upon the release of their album is a world tour — specifically to America, which the band sees as a “bigger world.” One of the songs on the album is even titled America to represent this collective dream.
Eagerly anticipating the release of their album in 2023 and continuing to release singles, ATRON’s passion for their music is clear in their craft. The band hopes their upcoming album will have an impact on people who may need an escape from the hardships of life.
“The album is going to be called clouds,” Oaks said “And I think, for me, music has always been the greatest escape from anything that’s troubling you or pain in general or just being a human can be hard sometimes. So I would love it to be just a sense of freedom and happiness and walking on the clouds.”
